The team does their best and I believe that there will be a bug fix on short notice as there has been in the past. Perhpas the time for testing was too short for the build before release. If you think writing bug free software is easy why does a company eg. Microsoft start the first service pack about 6 months after the first release of a new version. Could it be they need the millions of testers around the world to find unknown bugs. BTW. I reinstalled the New Build .147 and have the same problem and don't understand the fuss as it appears nobody tried New Build .147. RE: [LegacyUG] New Build .148
I really get tired of everyone comparing Millennia, Wholly Genes, Roots Magic, etc. to Microsoft. Bottom line is, the past couple of updates to Legacy (stay focused - this is the program we are talking about) has had some very serious bugs that should never have made it to the general public. It does not matter if there is one programmer or 1,000 programmers, the fact is Millennia (as well as the other vendors) needs to improve the level of quality assurance before releasing a product with such blatant bugs. When the Check Spelling window comes up, try pressing F1 or clicking on th Help button. Plenty of information in the Help about how to configure and use the Spell Checker. All dictionaries are kept in the Dictionaries subfolder within the Legacy storage structure. The files have an extension of TLX or CLX and have names that indicate the language. For example, userdic-us.tlx is, as you might expect, the US spellings dictionary. Apparently, Legacy uses the Sentry Spelling Checker Engine for Windows from Wintertree Software. In their support pages, I came across a description of a problem in the Spell Checking Applet which seems to be very like what you initially described happening. Basically, the Applet can report every word as a misspelling, and no words appear in the suggestion list. A very common cause of this problem is Spell Check Applet being unable to open its dictionaries. The applet uses its dictionaries to determine which words are spelled correctly. If the applet is unable to open all of its dictionaries, all words will be reported as misspelled. If the applet is unable to open one or more of its dictionary files, then some valid words may be reported as misspelled. Mike, Perhaps you should also ask Millennia to stop adding their tag lines to the end of every email message - those tag lines could also be considered a form of spam. Re: [LegacyUG] Genviewer
It would be impossible to give a short answer to your question because GenViewer is really loaded with features. I will give you a few things that I really like: 1) When viewing a database in the List tab, you can click on the column headings to sort the list like you would expect in a windows based list program. You can also customize the columns much like you would do in a spreadsheet. 2) You can have a filtered selection of the database highlighted in the lists. For example, on the Highlighting panel I asked that those with a spouse surname equal Price be shown. They are now very easy to spot in the list. 3) The File Search panel will locate all genealogical files on your computer. 4) GenViewer can open most genealogical files directly without conversion. 5) You can produce and print many reports that are not available in Legacy or elsewhere. GenViewer was written by Luc who Millennia brought in-house to head up the nFS interface project called LegacyFS. Great programming, incredible price. I think I have lost my dictionaries. Kind of fits with genealogy...can't find ancestors either. So maybe with help it will be easier to find the file and dictionaries! On Sat, Feb 18, 2012 at 7:50 AM, Mike Fry mike...@iafrica.com wrote: On 2012/02/18 16:23, Sydney Gabel wrote: Perhaps I don't know how to check for the correct dictionary! It used to work very well, but suddenly checks every word. I wonder if you've 'lost' your dictionaries? -- Regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). She is running Windows 7 and my computer is running Windows XP. My computer, same Legacy version, shows the arrows. Re: [LegacyUG] Picture Center Next/Prev arrows
Jenny, You may be right...I've never noticed that before. Once we linked a picture to more than one we saw the arrows show up but they may have showed after linking the picture to the first individual. I'll have to watch it closer on the next picture. I would not have thought they would be missing even if the picture was unused...maybe just grayed out or something. Thanks for your observations and reply. Whatever changes Legacy made to the database don't appear to be used by Genviewer. Laird On 2/18/2012 1:09 PM, Tim Rosenlof wrote: From Luc... Re: [LegacyUG] Genviewer_please help!
Please Help! I bought both GenViewer and Genmatcher. I waited for the e-mails of confirmation and got my special code number for each. I looked for a download to click on, but found none. I went back in to the website at Mudcreek Sales but can not download it without buying it again. I looked for a place to put in the code exactly as they had sent it to me, but found none, and also no apply button. Help! I bought it, but how do I download it without paying all over again? Thanks so very much, Luc and Lisa! I also found where I had the problem. I have such a wide screen on this laptop that the far left side, with the download arrows was not shown on my screen. I have them both downloaded now, and am one happy camper. I absolutely love this group. Whenever I need you, there you are. :-D God bless Legacy!! Re: [LegacyUG] Make a duplicate of a person
Is it possible to, effectively, copy paste a person to create a second person with the same name and details? Several days ago I sent the simplest way I know to copy a persons page, but the problem continued with no indication anyone had seen that post. I got a copy, but I was wondering if anyone else did. To copy a person, bring the page up as if you were going to edit it, but don't change anything, then save it. The main part of that page is then in Legacy memory somewhere, and all you need to do is click on the title of each entry you want, such as name, date or place. I don't think that will copy events or sources that way, but all the vital records on the main page will copy that way. You can even copy to another data base, as the memory doesn't care what name is on the database. You could buy it for $1.00 and if you think it's worthwhile, send more $$$ later ... I do recommend his products ... wish he'd write more of them. Good stuff!
