[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 74169] support Apple pages format

2014-01-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74169

--- Comment #3 from Paul Wise pa...@bonedaddy.net ---
I don't have access to OSX so I can't attach any documents but you can find
many samples on the Internet, I linked to some in the initial report.

The format is pretty simple and XML so I wouldn't say reverse engineering would
be needed.

There is a project to convert Apple Pages to epub here:

There is a project to modify Keynote files here:

It would be excellent if there was a mechanism to contact/ask extension
authors. Currently, there is even no way to identify the extension author. For
example, if I want to contribute to the British English dictionary, how to
contact the author?

a scrscreenshot of some red garbage text that does not apper in the cells,
loading takes ages

Problem description:

Steps to reproduce:
1. That step is a though one, because I do not know, how the issue started. I
probably copied some entries from my online-banking web-page (commerzbank.com)
and pasted them into my Calc sheet.
2.
3.

Current behavior:
So, I see some ghost letters (XML?), when opening my sheet, see attachment.
They disappear after some time. But overall my sheet is loading way too slowly
than other spreadsheets. It is loading slowly, although it is only data and a
single plot to display.

Expected behavior:

I would like to get rid of the unnecessarily contain in my sheet. Sometimes I
can recognize a http://...; string in the red-letter-chaos, but that is
nothing to be awaited among the text in the cells.

I tried to export to MS Excel, but the red contain is export too (no red text,
only grey items). Converting the XLSX back to ODS does not remove the garbage.

Is correct here too when I open the file in 4.2.0.4 .

Page style in each chapter is goofy. The First Page and following
default styles should be mirrored, but the layout is not right. It was
 correct in 4.1...

Can you pls explain what is not mirrored / not right?

--- Comment #4 from David Tardon dtar...@redhat.com ---
(In reply to comment #3)
 The format is pretty simple

You only think that because you have never seen a document with complex layout,
charts, tables and other objects in it.

and XML so I wouldn't say reverse engineering
 would be needed.

You would be wrong. That the format is XML does not mean it is immediately
obvious what the elements/attributes and their values mean. And how they work
together. E.g., the parameters for parametrized shapes (stars, arrows, quote
bubbles, etc.) are saved as opaque numeric values.

Or take tables. Most of the table-related elements and attributes are 1-3
letter abbreviations. What is even better: only non-empty cells are actually
saved. The position of the next filled cell (i.e., row and column) is saved,
inventively, using a single attribute. (Of course, first you need to discover
that this attribute--which is called sf:ct--has anything to do with the
placement of cells in the grid...)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 63259] shift f3 I.wrong Order II.cursorposition

yuzejya zrou...@gmail.com changed:

--- Comment #3 from yuzejya zrou...@gmail.com ---
I confirm the wish II: If the cursor is at the beginning or at the end of a
word (space/hard-space/tab precedes or follows the word), there is no
action/change on pressing shift-F3. I do not see anything, which would restrict
NOT to change the capitalization, while the cursor is at the beginning or end
of a word.

I understand the problem I. the following way: The shift-F3 cycles thought its
values (Capital At The Beginning, ALL CAPITALS, all lowercase) independently of
what the underlying word is.
Confirmation: I can jump from word to word and press shift-F3 at at jump. and I
see the changes happening in a cycle. To make the same changes in multiple
selections in a row requires tripe shift-F3.

There are two other possible behaviors of shift-F3:

behavior Ia: check on the capitalization of the word under cursor or in
selection and modify to the next capitalization mode in the cycle (this was
suggested by d.des...@gmx.de). That is sometimes tricky: What is the capital of
New York (NY)? (which capitalization has this sentence?)

behavior Ib: always start at the beginning of the cycle, independently of what
was changed previously, or what is the capitalization of the word under the
cursor. This would save some keystrokes: the user should know, that a single
shift-F3 keystroke gives him all lowercase, two keystrokes Capital At The
Beginning and three keystrokes ALL CAPITALIZED.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 68123] Other: Bibliography examples misleading hard to use

2014-01-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68123

--- Comment #2 from Owen Genat owen.ge...@gmail.com ---
(In reply to comment #0)
The Bibliography tool gives misleading examples, making how to use it
 confusing.

The specific problem is with the Identifier field. In the entry form this
is called the Short Name. The first problem is that the field needs to be
 named consistently.

The second problem is that the example entries for the field are
nonsensical. Although you wouldn't know it from the names, the field is
actually the form that the citation should take within the text -- for
example, (Smith: 1997) in the APA style. The nonsensical examples should be
replaced with one that will actually indicate the purpose of the field, such
 as In-Text Citation.

Seems like it would be a good idea to keep the documentation team informed of
any changes made in this respect. I do not know what the standard method of
doing this is, otherwise I would make the change. Is the Documentation ML added
as a CC?

2.) The ability to chose the database for major citation styles (APA, MLA,
 Chicago).

There is a point and screenshot, that seems related to this exact issue, noted
for the FOSEM 2014 UX hackfest:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Hackfest/FOSDEM2014#Ideas Thanks are due to
Fabian for pointing this out in bug 73275.

However I don't know if the message is ok + 4.2 shouldn't crash anyway.

It looks like the extension is only a catalyst to get into the crash, but not
the reason for it. (And from a quick look at the extension, it does not look
like it should not work with current LO 4.)

Looking at the bt of 4.2, I noticed that some destructors were called twice
so I wonder if it could a problem of order in the stack of calls of
 destructors.

Two consecutive frames of seemingly the same C++ destructor is normal and
expected, it is an artefact of how the compiler generates code for C++
destructors.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 69386] Index entry terms sometimes trigger random style change (italic or bold)

2014-01-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=69386

--- Comment #5 from Owen Genat owen.ge...@gmail.com ---
(In reply to comment #2)
Hazel sent me a sample document allowing to reproduce the bug. I use version
4.1.2.1 and confirm the problem with italic and bold triggered in the text.

There appears to be extensive use of overriding formatting (paragraph style
character style direct formatting) in that attachment. The document may
therefore not be the best example, although it /may/ still be an issue. I am
not clear on what is expected behaviour given this type of formatting.

To be clear, the italic issue is displayed on the 1st page in the 4th paragraph
beginning The widespread occurrence ... and the bold issue is displayed on
the 2nd page in the 2nd paragraph beginning The simplest desktops

Opening the ODT with an archive manager and examining the XML I can see these
style entries (styles.xml):

style:style style:name=Emphasis style:family=text
style:text-properties fo:font-style=italic
style:font-style-asian=italic style:font-style-complex=italic/
/style:style
style:style style:name=file style:family=text
style:text-properties fo:font-weight=bold
style:font-size-asian=10.5pt/
/style:style

These are both character styles (for italic and bold respectively) and yet they
have been applied to the entire text e.g., in content.xml the 1st paragraph on
the 1st page is defined:

text:p text:style-name=Standard
text:span text:style-name=Emphasis
text:span text:style-name=T3forces users to buy a new computer
every time a new version comes out. That is certainly not what users want!
Instead it’s very much what the computer manufacturers want, and Microsoft
gives it to them to ensure that they will go on putting Windows onto every box
they sell. Microsoft also frequently makes arbitrary and sweeping changes to
the user interface, with little concern for whether users like it or not.
Windows 8 is a particularly crass example.
/text:span
/text:span
/text:p

The inner (T3) direct formatting is overriding the Emphasis character style,
which in turn is overriding the Standard paragraph style. Where the two
alphabetical marks appear these inner direct formatting elements (e.g., T3 in
the example shown) are being lost and so the text is reverting to the character
style in effect on that paragraph (either italic or bold) for the remainder of
the text.

Clear direct formatting does not remove character styling, so what Hazel
describes makes sense.

Suppose I have low-end computer with quite sunlight-readable screen.
So I need only high contrasts and Windows 7 Basic Theme (slow graphics).
Might ut be, I could Set simpler, high-contrast theme, but my icons wouldn't be
in high contrast.

Maybe, removing that icon theme from program is one solution to this problem -
so there will be new functionality to add - new contrasting theme.

Ok, If you can, do something good with this. I'm low on time.
Could be a problem for some casual or impaired user as I noted above and we can
imagine.
Anyway, no big problem for me anymore.

This indeed is a very frustrating bug (I assume it is a bug since it seems the
registrymodifications.xcu concept should apply at a system level?)

It seems as it is there is a presets folder that doesn't allow one to define
their desired presets?

If there is another way to make system level settings modifications (of
course they can always be overridden if a user has customized them) I would be
happy if someone could point me in the right direction.

But anyway, after setting High Contrast White Win 7 Theme,

I think it should work at least inversely or ..
we can dream of icons that, when selected, are
marked by rectagle drawn from lines and spaces, which are moving, so it gets
any attention.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 65675] LibreOffice 4.2 most annoying bugs

squeezech...@gmx.de changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 Depends on||65074

please add #65074
_

bug is not entirely fixed in LibreOffice 4.2
_

XLSX cells with 2 conditional formatting rules are not displayed correctly:

1. p.ex. cell values =$H$13:$H$427 have a color scale
2. cell values equal or smaller than =MIN(H$13:H$428)*1,1 should be bold
   (Arial unicode, size 10)

In LibreOffice 4.2 the second rule is bold but wrong font and not changeable

Spreadsheet can be downloaded here:

http://www.squeezechart.com/SqueezeChart2013-preview.xlsx
_

Behavior before LibreOffice 4.2:
_

cells with with conditional formatting sometimes show the numbers not centered
and without points; cell borders are not shown (see for example I13 to I21..)

Steps to reproduce:

Spreadsheet can be downloaded here:

http://www.squeezechart.com/SqueezeChart2013-preview.xlsx

screenshot from Excel:

http://www.squeezechart.com/spreadsheet-in-Excel-15.0.4420.png

screenshot from LibreOffice:

http://www.squeezechart.com/spreadsheet-in-LibreOffice-4.0.0.1.png

Current behavior:

cells with with conditional formatting sometimes show the numbers not centered
and without points; cell borders are not shown

Expected behavior:

All cells in the main table must contain centered numbers with thousand points.

--- Comment #2 from Stephan Bergmann sberg...@redhat.com ---
The current behaviour is by design. LO uses the configuration code before it
decides to copy presets to a yet missing user installation. The configuration
code would not read registrymodifications.xcu once it has been copied into the
user installation (so the currently running LO instance would not use those
settings) and, more severely, would overwrite the copied
registrymodifications.xcu with only the changes done locally in the running LO
instances (and it does do some such changes behind the scenes for bookkeeping
purposes).

The recommended way to install site-wide configuration settings is via an
extension that is installed as shared or bundled.

(My understanding of the presets folder in general is that it is an
implementation detail of LO. It may happen to work to modify existing files in
there to install site-wide settings, but to my knowledge that has never been
the intent of that folder.)

if there some user interested doing the job he/she is welcome

in the meantime a new theme has been added in 4.2.0.
see here:

maybe it would be an alternative to the hi-conntrast theme.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 68167] Create an outline view similar to that in MS Word and Apple Pages

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68167

--- Comment #18 from Jean-Marc Liotier j...@liotier.org ---
I just discovered that Libreoffice Impress has a basic but quite usable outline
view. Any chance that its code could be used to expose the same functionality
in Libreoffice Writer ?

Here are a couple of the files that a search for 'outline' dregged from the
Libreoffice code:
http://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/editeng/source/outliner/outlvw.cxx
http://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/editeng/source/outliner/outliner.cxx
http://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/sd/source/ui/inc/OutlineView.hxx

The timestamps on the editeng/source/outliner directory show recent edits
(http://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/editeng/source/outliner/) but
http://opengrok.libreoffice.org/history/core/editeng/source/outliner shows that
they are unrelated to the outlining functionality.

The file also has a pivot table and is extremely slow to open, save, modify
etc. the program didn't behave like that in previous releases.
I usually have other files opened at the same time, 3 at the most, but they are
not as big as the file that makes it crash.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 74224] New: FILESAVE: Crash with DATA LOSS, likely autosave hang

2014-01-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74224

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 74224
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: FILESAVE: Crash with DATA LOSS, likely autosave hang
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: michaeljtbro...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.1.4.2 release
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

Problem description:
While typing a lengthy document which was derived from a Google Docs document,
Writer just froze then exited. 500 words had been lost when I opened up
LibreOffice and tried to recover the document.

I suspect this is an autosave issue where autosave is failing and just bombing
out with a crash.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a Google Document which consists of a table of text with 11pt Calibri
as the body.
2. Export the Google Doc as .odt and save it locally.
3. Open up the downloaded .odt in Writer, type a few lines in the table of
text.
4. Select the table of text (Ctrl+A) and change its style to Arial 10pt.
5. Carry on typing several paragraphs.
6. At some point, Writer will freeze and bomb out. On recovery you'll realise
that you are missing the text you entered.
7. Data loss is bad. Really bad.

Current behavior:
Writer crashes unexpectedly, no new text entered since document was last opened
is saved. This is a DATA LOSS bug.

Expected behavior:
Writer autosaves without crashing. Writer is able to recover the most recently
entered text.

Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 4.1.4.2 release

Thanks for investing some time into helping us narrow down when and possibly
how this bug came about. I've pinged Markus about it to see what he thinks

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 74225] New: Calculations Incorrect. Same file calculated correctly with OpenOffice and incorrectly with LibreOffice.

Summary: Calculations Incorrect. Same file calculated correctly
with OpenOffice and incorrectly with LibreOffice.
  Severity: critical
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: kennyha...@fibrant.com
  Hardware: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.1.4.2 release
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

Created attachment 93060
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=93060action=edit
Input is done on the first sheet. The print sheet shows the result of a
series of calculations that we need to print for our AARP volunteer tax work..

Calculations in the attached document are incorrect in LibreOffice (but correct
in OpenOffice) on the print sheet on row 26 in the third column.
The correct amount ($335) shows in OpenOffice -- but not in Libre.

Also, sometimes the exclusion amount calculated on row 16 (in green) is also
incorrect.

When we open the attached file in Libre, the exclusion amount on the print
sheet shows to be $18.94. When we retype the input on the inputs sheet, this
amount changes to $27.95.

When we open the attached file in OpenOffice, everything is correct.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 44314] HYPHENATION: Non-standard hyphenation patterns don't work with manual hyphenation

--- Comment #8 from László Németh nem...@numbertext.org ---
Now LibreOffice uses (1) non-standard hyphenation at soft hyphens, and (2)
user-defined dictionary items with the new non-standard soft hyphen annotation
(with soft hyphens and automatically, enabled by Format-Paragraph-Text
flow-Hyphenation-Automatically).

The attached test document works with the following dictionary items, added to
the Standard user-defined dictionary (Tools-Options-Language
settings-Writing Aids-User-defined dictionaries-Standard [All]-Edit):

as[z]szon[y]nyal
cafee[2é]tje
ko=nya=kos=meg[y]gye=zik
paral·[1]lel

Short description of the new non-standard hyphenation pattern of the
user-defined dictionary (TODO: extend the help with a description):

'[' + optional split number ('0'-'9') + optional extra characters + ']'

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 73277] Cell's indent in RTL

2014-01-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73277

Since version 4.2.0 is being released, it might be important to note that there
are some changes related to RTL features.

The testing procedure I posted in comment #8 is intended for version 4.1.4.2.
Since the RTL *text direction* icon might already set right-alignment for
other versions, the testing procedure might need a slight modification, as
follows.

1_ Start a new clean Calc workbook.
2_ Type-in several cells with some text. Insert the text, without any prior
cell formatting. To ease the testing procedure, I would suggest using cells in
one column only.
3_ Select the cells with text.
4_ Click on the RTL icon.
5_ If the cells are not yet set to right-align (see whether the right-align
icon is pressed), then click on the right-alignment text icon.
6_ With the cells still selected, click on the increase indent icon. Note
that the icon itself shows the arrow (or triangle) pointing from
left-to-right, but the effect is not to add indentation from the left to the
right side. The expected behavior of this icon is increase indentation.

Regards,
Ady.

@Foss:

Have you tried to remove the highlighting in MS word? I tried in 4.1.3 and the
problem is still there.

The problem is NOT that the highlight is not visible. The problem is that the
highlight is not REMOVABLE from the document when opened in MSword.

I have no 4.2 to test; can you attach the file you prepared with 4.2 so that I
can try to open it with microsoft word an check if the problem is really gone?

Maybe this bug and bug 73904 have the same root cause. Both describe a crash
when the end of the file is reached.

 Best regards. JBF

As comment 4 mentioned, this still affects 4.2.0.4, which is now an official
release...

It does indeed look like this bug is related to bug 73904. Also, it appears
that both bugs affect both Draw and Impress.

To sum up, Using Find, Find Replace, or Spell check in either Draw or Impress
will cause LO to crash when it searches again from the beginning of the
document.

Hi,

I can't reproduce the crash under Windows 7.

Is it a clean install, or an upgrade from 4.1/4.0? If it's an upgrade, please
try to reset the user profile as described at

problem.

After having updated from 4.1 to 4.2.0.4 (which I can't choose in the Version
field above), Writer shows all lines in a document (several dozens that
introduce structure in tables) that were formerly black now as blue (see
attachment) This is annoying because an update shouldn't require me to change
things like that and which is particularly annoying because Writer doesn't
allow to highlight several things at the same time (with Shift or Ctrl) so I
have to do each line separately. Seriously, I like LO and proselytize my
students all the time, but crap like this make one wonder why with each update
x bugs get fixed and y bugs get introduced ...
