The string TRUE is turned into 1 while typing, dragging down increments this
number. (Holding the Ctrl key while typing is a workarround).
Booleans in OOo and LibO are not true booleans but numbers with specific
format.

Typing =TRUE() and dragging produces the expected result (TRUE in all rows as
you drag a formula , not a number).

Writing a string and rely on number recognition is not the best way to have the
boolean value. Don't forget that number recognition is locale dependant (TRUE
in EN, VRAI in FR...etc). So the best way is to use TRUE() and FALSE() formula.

IMHO that option always was questionable:

eithr the admin wans it and can insatall it system-wide or the admin doesn't
want it and doesn't install it.

(That+#s also the reason
http://packages.debian.org/sid/i386/browser-plugin-libreoffice/filelist exists
as an extra package which people can install or not; it installs the plugin
system-wide)

And TTBOMK you can disable plugins locally in about:something so if the admin
installed it you can still disable it?

- option moot. At least for UNIXish systems etc, and even for Windows one
probably can do that

With Excel SUBTOTAL(9;OFFSET(A1;{1;3;4};0)) returns an array of SUBTOTAL
results :
{SUBTOTAL(9;A2);SUBTOTAL(9;A4);SUBTOTAL(9;A5)}
With LibO/AOO the same formula returns a scalar which is the result of :
SUBTOTAL(9;{A2;A4;A5})

So SUBTOTAL in Excel treats the result of OFFSET as 3 ranges of 1 cell while in
LibO this is a range of 3 cells.

I don't know where is the truth :)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 71459] No easy way to subtract two numbers (without snap-to-zero)

2013-11-18 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71459

--- Comment #4 from Dominique Boutry dominique.bout...@laposte.net ---
The spreadsheets calculate and store numbers with the greater precision offered
by the computer technology :
- Floating mantissa 52 bits precise to 1.0E-16 (approx : 52/10 * 3 = ~ 16)
- Other technics (probable : 64-bit integers acting as numerator and
denominator of a fractional number)
- Perhaps still others, at the discretion of the implementers , as long as it
allows a greater precision.

Finite precision is observable in the following expression :
= 1 + 1 - 1 , which is evaluated as 0 ,
not 1.

Integer storage of integers up to 1 is garanteed accurate. But
there is no warranty that intermediate results don't show integer overflows,
so intuitive use of integers is rapidly inappropriate.

The COMBIN function ( a; b ) is difficult to implement :
- Implement it as FACTDOUBLE = (a) / FACTDOUBLE (b) is too restrictive given
the loss of accuracy of FACTDOUBLE from 27,
- Move to floating numbers is not surprising , and introduce the loss of
relative accuracy of 1.0E-16 on input calculation arguments, totaling here
1.0E-13 on output calculation :
COMBIN (15;9) + 1 - 5005 evaluates to 1.9100

It belongs to the application developer EXCEL / LibO Calc developer to design a
digitally correct application and to avoid sequences that make significant
some bits located in the error area at mantissa end. It is impossible to track
back the evolution of the numeric error along the calculations.
Programmers take into account that for 40 years in calculation which led us to
the moon ;-)
Best solution here : = ROUND ( COMBIN ( 15;9 ) ) + 1 - 5005

Sample document with table

Writes crashes when merging nonempty cells in table, but also crashes when
merging with empty cells in some cases.

A. Open attached sample document:

1. Selects Cell1 and Cell2
2. Merge selected cells via toolbar button or menu
3. Writer crashes

or

B. Open attached sample document:

1. Clear content of Cell1
2. Select Cell1 (now empty) and Cell2 (i.e. yellow cells)
2. Merge selected cells via toolbar button or menu
3. Writer crashes

Merging works in second case when Cell2 is cleared instead of Cell1.

A workaround for your sample :
Add a column with the formula =SUBTOTAL(3;A9) in H9 and drag down (with filter
to All)
Then =SUMPRODUCT($H$9:$H$260; --($G$9:$G$260=H4)) will gives you the result
with a simpliest and shorter formula.
You need 3.6.7/4.0.4/4.1.0 minimum, see

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 71729] New: UI: Manage Names dialog populates Name box, but not Range box, for the first range before any is selected

Bug ID: 71729
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: UI: Manage Names dialog populates Name box, but not
Range box, for the first range before any is selected
  Severity: minor
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: douglasnap...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: unspecified
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a spreadsheet with any number of named ranges.
2. Click Insert Names Manage to display the Manage Names dialog.

Current behavior:
In the list pane (the top part of the dialog), there is a list of the named
ranges. The first one is highlighted. In the middle part of the dialog, there
are fields for Name, Range, and Scope. The Name and Scope fields in this
middle part are populated with the information for the first named range. The
Range field is blank. You need to focus on the first range either with a mouse
click or by pressing the down arrow for the Range field to populate with the
information for the first range.

Expected behavior:
When the Manage Names dialog first displays, before the user has clicked on a
range or begun to scroll through the list of ranges with the arrow keys, all of
the fields in the middle part of the Manage Names dialog (Name, Range, and
Scope) should be populated with the correct information for the first range.

This pertains to 67621 and takes the place of 68608.

Version: 4.1.3.2
Build ID: 70feb7d99726f064edab4605a8ab840c50ec57a
on Windows.

The following information might require its own separate bug report(s), but I
think it might be useful for this bug too.

Using other date-related functions (besides DATEDIF), they _all_ fail, except
when the referenced cell is formatted with my default locale setting in Calc. I
have added (for testing) these Date acceptance patterns:
 M/D/Y;M/D;MMMDD;D/M/Y;DD/MM/
but only when using my default English (USA) MM/DD/ I get to see a
result. For example, using the YEAR function, all other formatted cells return
#VALUE.

Moreover, I tried using CELL(FORMAT,A1), and this CELL function fails with
#NAME every time (no matter which format the referenced cell A1 is using. Any
variation of CELL() (e.g. CELL(CONTENTS,A1) and so on) gives me the same #NAME
result, so probably this is an additional separate bug.

Since the alignment is also different when using MM/DD/YYY than when using
other non-default date formats (such as DD/MM/ in my case), it seems to me
that the bug is not really in the DATEDIF function, but in the way Calc is
identifying those cells (seemingly, as 'text').

Regards,
Ady.

In addition, if I first insert a date as MM/DD/ and *then* I change it to
DD/MM/ formatting, the cell is correctly interpreted as a date.

If I first format a cell as DD/MM/, and *then* a date is inserted with such
format, the date is treated as 'text' and not as 'date' (say, 18/11/2013), but
if I insert the corresponding value, 41596, the cell is correctly shown as
18/11/2013 with the expected alignment and functions such as YEAR work as
expected too.

BTW, I am having similar experiences (cells treated as 'text') with other
number formats, not just with dates.

Regards,
Ady.

Preferred transparent background

Hello,

First of all, thanks to everyone who have contributed to new Start Center.

For the new design, sidebar buttons looks a bit non-native, the grey on-hover
background does not look very good. For the possible solution, current 4.1
transparent background would be a better possible solution, because with green
background all other options would look bad I think.

Also the font size could be a little smaller, they are not in ratio with the
recent documents filenames, one side looks much bigger and nonproportional.

Thanks everyone in advance!
Best regards,

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 61272] Incorrect EMF pictures visualization

(In reply to comment #5)
Is this really a medium-important issue?
In fact emf is a standard-format on the Window-Platform and there is no
known workaround, yet. (Note: AOO doesn't have that problem currently)
For me it's a least high and critial.

Please understand that these fields are largely set by the QA team to ensure
fair and accurate reporting across the entire LO community and bug pool, rather
than the effect on an individual. In this case there are alternate formats to
EMF e.g., SVG.

please see the image I just attached.
It shows how the sample document displays on my system.
Is this how it displays on yours?

Yes. The second and third column should be blank, but show text content.

I do not see a body like text:p child.

The text content you see is the text:p child of the table cell.

Also, how did you generate the file,

I took an odt file generated by report builder, and then edited the
XML in a text editor to remove everything that is not necessary to
show the problem (I minimised the test case).

and how can I either set a column type to void,

In the XML (content.xml file of the test case seen as a ZIP
archive):

 table:table-cell table:style-name=ce2 office:value-type=void

that's where the void type is.

or confirm in the UI that a column type is set to void?

I don't think the UI shows that. It is in the file format.

REOP as per https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=69211#c6 .

Basically, Calc is not recognizing date-formatted cells even when additional
Date acceptance patterns are added. Calc is accepting those additional date
patterns only when the date is originally inserted with the default date
pattern and *then* converted to the additional date format.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 71319] Incorrect wrapping of text with indent around a picture

2013-11-18 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71319

--- Comment #3 from Dominique Boutry dominique.bout...@laposte.net ---
We are facing 2 choices ; below are some criteria to take into account :
- exhaustive pro-con analysis (exemple : whis the asked behavior, the text
right to the picture doesn't respond anymore to any indent setting)
- history : ascending compatibility with older versions,
- common sense (but the notion of correct rendering tends to be a personnal),
- technics to allow both behaviors (in the present case, trying page wrap
instead of optimal page wrap may be satisfying in some cases ; other technic
in tables with 1 line-2 columns).

What I'm afraid of is the ping-pong syndrom :
- choice A to satisfy users asking it,
- number of bug reports claiming against the change or against the adoption of
choice A : choice B to satisfy those users,
- number of bug reports claiming against the change or against the adoption of
choice B : back to choice A, etc... etc...

The bug is back, even though explorer extensions are not installed.
Might be a sign of a corrupted profile. Could you please reset your profile as
described at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Faq/General/110.

Also take a look at the user name mentioned in the lock file, does it correct?
Also go to Tools-Options...-LibreOffice-User Data and compare the user name
mentioned there. Try to set it to be *exactly* the same as your system user
name (and clear other fields).

May be a conflict with antivirus: it coincides with ESET Smart Security 7
 updating its program modules.
Might be, especially if you have a slow computer.

Is there an option to DISABLE file locking?
You could try
http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/4055/how-can-i-unlockwriter-documents-to-edit-on-another-computer/.
Didn't try it, so do it on your own risk.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 71318] Numbering Not Continuing As Expected

2013-11-18 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71318

--- Comment #4 from Dominique Boutry dominique.bout...@laposte.net ---
From my past experience :
- I used WORD at the office, with documents often derived from older ones (very
few created from scratch or from a clean model), with multiple authors, some of
them unaware of WORD,
- after a time, the documents often got corrupted, which mainly appeared as
crash when manipulating lists,
- I used OpenOffice (since 2005 ; the only one in may plant) to open and save
back the documents, that resulted in the revelation of large list of invisible
list styles, all named XXXSomething ; I just had to suppress them on WORD, and
the WORD documents started for a second life,
- The WORD documentation explains, at a place I don't remember, the condition
of automatic creation of bunch of list styles, and the crash resulted from a
number of such styles exceeding the WORD/PC/memory capacity.

Perhaps the initial state of your corrupted ODT document is such a corrupted
WORD document.

I hope this could help.

commit da06166015689eca260c702602bef4cea58afbd3 caused a regression, it is not
possible to save new custom toolbars and it is not possible to modify existing
custom toolbars any longer. See bug 69500. Benefits of this commit do not
outweigh the harm it causes, so it's better to revert it.

Good ideas! I suggest to implement these things:
1) The application selection dialog as described in my original issue.
2) The Remember my decision checkbox inside this dialog.
3) A new configuration item to get the possibility to change its behavior (to
select the default or to leave it undefined which will cause the dialog to
display).
4) To consider some more formats to apply the same.
5) Possibly to group these formats separately from the app-related grouping in
the list.

The illustration index hyperlinks is saved document.
The default index settings is:

But after reloading the file, I got:

Just edit it to check)

Confirmed this is still not working in LO 4.2 (Alpha). File is being linked
instead of the bitmap being placed into the document. This does indeed cause a
lot of frustration for end users and there is no way to explain this to them.

Linked documents cause lots of problems when documents are reopened, often they
are slow in opening and make LO look like it's deadlocked. If said document is
opened where this is no Internet connection, document appears broken and users
perceive that LO not working.

Attaching screenshot.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 52547] New Firefox image clipboard causes paste as link in LibreOffice - paste directly is preferred

The short version of this conversation is LO should preferentially use the
bitmap if several options are on the clipboard not just the first in the list.
See bug 55735 ( see comment 5 ) and probably bug 65410 also

from our students.
