[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 93318] Buttons on extreme left of Tab bar
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93318 --- Comment #2 from Alex alex6...@postedmail.net --- I did not intend any offense in the enhancement I submitted! Please note that I said please before each request, and meant it genuinely! However, I stand behind the opinion I expressed that scarce resources had been applied to the wrong priorities in this case. I have been a heavy user of spreadsheets for over 30 years, the last 20 of which have been with the use of Excel 5.0 and its VBA - now over 20 years old. In spite of that, Excel 5 still does things that Calc doesn't do, and I would continue using it except I fear that at some point it will cease to work with a new OS. Hence, I'm trying to migrate complex workbooks and hundreds of lines of VBA from Excel 5.0 to Calc. It hasn't been easy. Thanks for including the link to the new features in version 5 - I had not seen it. I actually only went to version 5 two days ago when I learned that it fixed a deficiency/bug regarding Named Ranges for entire rows or columns that had caused me to previously write a macro which fixed what Calc destroyed every time a new row or column was added to a sheet with such NamedRanges. I'm frustrated by the slow pace with which Calc is getting even with where MS was 20 years ago, but I understand that it is largely thanks to the kindness and generosity of so many volunteers that it is even as good as it is. I'm grateful for that, and am trying to be patient while the backlog of deficiencies is dealt with! User Interfaces are an important part of working with any program, and Calc and the Basic IDE, in particular, have ample opportunities awaiting improvements. The link in your response included a lengthy discussion about what to add to or remove from the standard toolbars. What is done there is of no concern or use to me, because I always make my own customized toolbars. I also can and do customize the menu bars. But, as far as I last knew, I cannot customize the context (right-mouse-button) menu (as I can in Excel) to add a very much missed Excel option to insert a previously copied cell range (i.e., inserting the required number of new rows/columns and pasting the clipboard's content to that area) unless I write a macro to do it. When I looked into the possibilities of doing just that, I found the whole technique of programmatically examining what is on the clipboard so daunting that I tabled it for another day when I had a lot of time to further investigate. I mention this only as just one example of a User Interface enhancement that would, at least for me, truly add value. There are many more. I really fail to comprehend the reasons for the changes I vented about in the original submittal. If you have scores of sheets in a workbook, the utility of going quickly to the beginning or end of that tab sequence is used frequently. Requiring two hands (Ctrl + mouse-click) should never be a requirement for any request (an alternate short-cut maybe, but never required). If those two button controls were removed to make way for another ability to add a new sheet, then the trade-off was flawed. How difficult is it to right-click anywhere on the tab bar to pop-up a window giving you the option of saying how many new sheets you want, where to put them, and what name to call them? How many times do people add sheets in the first place, nor not want to give them a name besides Sheet_ when they do? If there are users craving such a button, then I wouldn't want to deny them that wish; but, not if a required tradeoff is the loss of the First Sheet and Last Sheet buttons. If you keep the new sheets button, then at least place it at the other end of the tab bar, where it won't get confused with the scroll buttons and clicked accidentally. Please note that if I could fix this myself for my own desires, I would, but as far as I know, I can't customize the tab bar controls to add back what someone else decided was superfluous and removed. I'm sorry if the tone of this addendum is also unwelcome, but please understand that I have been spending an enormous amount of time and effort trying to work around Calc's relative deficiencies and slower performance, and having a feature I use frequently taken away while so many real opportunities to add value remain in queue, is not something I welcome! Any developers who have time on their hands should go tackle the Basic IDE User Interface! It's barely adequate to enable the creation of Basic macros, dialogs and the testing thereof, and certainly not anything you'd want to spend much time having to use. But, on the positive side, I will say it's a lot better than where it was 5 years ago when I first took a look at it and decided it wasn't yet ready for real use. So, progress does happen! But, the removal of the First- and Last-Sheet controls was not progress! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 92823] FORMATTING: styles and formatting function does not work
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92823 --- Comment #16 from andréb and...@laposte.net --- (In reply to Cor Nouws from comment #15) (In reply to andréb from comment #14) (In reply to Joel Madero from comment #10) ... 5. Then I tried the opening the styles and formatting dialog - this indeed failed. This point confirms bug report, so setting to new = confirmed. (The preceding points did not address the problem reported.) I've re-read your original report and notice you wrote three points of failure there around the SF dlg. Wrt the #5 above here: no idea what you have done with the user profile (din't study it, sorry). But all functions for you with a fresh user profile. My saying in comment 3 that the SF function worked, it is likely due to testing the wrong thing, using the context menu to change a single cell. (I really wanted it to work.) Since the SF function in the tool bar no longer worked after just deactivating/activating a few functions predefined by default in the tool bar, by unchecking/checking the associated check box. And for me just with the profile I use. I guess, if other ran into the same problem, we would have been flooded by similar reports ;) So sorry, but the only sensible thing is to resolve as WorksForMe. Looking at your comment #2, you mention being able to use the (relatively new) side bar to access the SF dialog. I suspect that you haven't tested the SF dialog in the format tool bar, which is where I reported the error occurring. As well, you give no indication of having tested the alternate menu:format:SF and F11 means of accessing this function. Please note that these 2 methods of accessing the function are not configurable. Could you confirm that you have actually tested these means of accessing the SF function ? Otherwise you are just saying that something other than the problem reported works for you. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

In the Cell Format dialog under User defined (Benutzerdefiniert in German) I antered [HH:MM]. The dialog change the Category to User defined but does not!!! allow to add and save this format as it's not an allowed format. The format after clicking OK reverts to HH:MM. Nothing changed in D36. I changed for E5 the value from 00:30:00 to 1 and exits the cell. The cell shows now 00:00 and after entering the cell again for editing it show 24:00:00. As for now correct. But in D36 the value is now -71:30. Not correct. In cell F5 the value is still 8:45 - also not correct: should -16:15 or an 00:00 if the cell format does not allow to present negative time values. Paste numerical results as numbers and clear text and numbers formatted as dates. Paste numbers formatted as dates as dates and clear text and numbers. I still haven't been provided an example of a reasonable use for these options. The DATE() bug is 87386 and MOD() bug was 87506, which may have later been combined with 87386, because the cause of both may be the same. The example I gave when I reported 87386 creates a result that is wrong by one month (also in 4.4.2.2). At present, I have no way of telling whether your bug report is about the update notifier, or the repeated hang/crashing you see on saving. As regards the notifier, to my knowledge, and I admit to not knowing all of the details, the notifier works within a given branch. So, for example, you will be notified of a version update from 4.3.x to 4.4.x, but not when a new branch is created, as in the case of the 5.x release. Unfortunately, it was decided to not switch to a 5.x user configuration directory when releasing the 5.x branch, rather to keep relying on the 4.x user config folder. In version 5 a new item appeared at the bottom of the Edit menu: Edit Mode Ctrl+Shift+M. This looks like it might be a useful feature but for one thing - the 'i' is underlined. So when I do Alt+E followed by 'I' my document becomes read only and is locked for editing. Of course, I didn't notice this and twice had to refill a lot of data rows as they became lost, even after saving the document. I even went so far as to save the document as a new version, close down, and open the new version for editing only to find the same behaviour. Until I found the new item on the Edit menu. https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54703 --- Comment #7 from wba...@bakerfister.com --- Upgraded to Version 4.4.5.2 as suggested. Build ID: 40m0. Everything is worse. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 93282] Several Issues Regarding Update
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93282 --- Comment #8 from Matthew lyba...@earthlink.net --- (Replying to comment 7, posted by Alex Thurgood) Thanks for your suggestion. I apologize for talking about two issues in the same bug report. The reason is that (comment 1, which I posted) the problem I am having trying to save a file looked exactly like a problem I had previously, which was apparently fixed by upgrading to a newer version of LibreOffice. I'm satisfied with the explanation of LibreOffice's upgrade mechanism. All of my subsequent comments deal with my problem in saving LibreOffice documents. That is the only issue. You recommend removing or renaming my LibreOffice user profile and restarting LibreOffice. Please tell me where to find that user profile. I am using LibreOffice on a MacBook Pro running OS X version 10.10.3. Deleting the user profile and having LibreOffice create a new one is worth a try, but I'm not sure that the problem is related to version 5 using a version 4 user config folder. As I reported in comment 6, I went back to LibreOffice 4.4.3 2 and had the same problem trying to save a Writer file. But I'm willing to try it, so please tell me where to find the user profile. https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54703 --- Comment #8 from wba...@bakerfister.com --- I have a work around for the different behavior of hidden sections (as well as hidden paragraphs, and conditional text). The conditions used were simple and in accordance with the online libreoffice information. For example, it just used the query field name, eg. hide==1. However, it seems the new condition doesn't just rely on the query field name but requires more specificity such as database name, query name and field name. For example DB1.Letter_Query.hide==1.
