Best, --R as said to Beluga, the ping message will take QA a minimal effort since it's just an automated message we send once. then all the real job will be done to reporters and other people on CC that will retest and hopefully give feedback... the QA team will only have to wait. even if only 5% of the pinged bugs will turn into WORKSFORME it will be a win since we will not spend anymore time try to triage again those bugs. moreover the automated message will serve like a kind of reminder to users to upgrade to latest LO version... it's not rare to see people still using obsolete LibO releases (like 4.1.x or early 4.2.x) just because they don't follow our rapid release cycle. having people using very old LO release is detrimental since they could keep reporting bugs that are not present anymore in the current releases. so our ping campaign could serve as an upgrade campaign as well ___ List Name: Libreoffice-qa mailing list Mail address: Libreoffice-qa@lists.freedesktop.org Change settings: http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-qa Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice-qa/

I agree that we can ping them, but I think we should do some tasks before that. As you noticed, I've been going through the old ones. I'm currently at July 2014, so not very old anymore :) The concentration of hard-to-repro bugs is high in the older reports. Some are practically impossible to repro by a regular QA team member. the rationale of pinging old bugs (which most of the time are unconfirmed just because they are hard to reproduce) is to ask the reporter to retest himself with a new release and see if the bug is gone or not. nobody better than the original reported can reproduce a bug. so the gain is that if the reported himself tell the bug is gone we will not spend anymore time trying to reproduce an hard to reproduce the bug. so with a minimal effort (automated ping message) we can get rid of bugs from the list and the reported will do the job... the same thing can apply to old NEW bugs as well ___ List Name: Libreoffice-qa mailing list Mail address: Libreoffice-qa@lists.freedesktop.org Change settings: http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-qa Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice-qa/
