Hopefully the attached patch addresses all comments...Recapping: The argz functions (specifically, argz_insert) supplied by cygwin are buggy, in wierd use-dependent malloc-related ways. I've already submitted a patch to newlib to fix that error which has been accepted http://sourceware.org/
