Simon, I am less worried than yourselves about the "coldness" of the new engraving. As a performer, what I want is clarity and the new version wins hands down. However, I hate the fermata tremolo which seems to me to combine the worst features of all possible solutions. Presumably whatever

Dear Peter, how about this: { \once\override TupletNumber.text = \markup \fermata \tuplet 1/1 \repeat tremolo 16 { c'32 c''} } It is misusing a tuplet for the fermata and just overrides the text (which would print "1" otherwise). If one does not like the idea of such a fake tuplet in this
