I just started playing with linphone, using the linux command-line
linphonec.
I am new to sip in general, so some obvious things will still be not
obvious to me.
I have a device based on ubuntu 11.04, Natty, and some later machines with
a newer version of linphone.

Try running sudo make install or whatever.
Your new system does not find the libraries.
If you effectively did the job of make install by hand, then run ldconfig
as root.

linphonec is a console program which you can use to make the call answer

Just run linphonec from a terminal.
