I've never tried to use DHCPCD on Linux/390. Sounds a little bizarre to
me.
Still, you might try using a Linux DHCPD server and see if it handles

I have been experimenting with linux using a 3270 console

superior to the 3270 driver which gets initialised later,

Hello everybody,
After rebuild my kernel 2.4.7 with all ibm patch applied, I get some
troubles with my first IPL.
Fsck tall me the filesystem has been corrupted
Should I need to do something else after zipl ?
Thanks for your responses.

Have you done a shutdown? I did get similar errors, until I did one shutdown -h.
Then they seemed to go away.

Thanks for your response. I've already done that. It was one of the first
things I tried. I have the proxy server explicitly set in both
/etc/rc.config and in the settings/proxy panel in Konquerer. Anybody else
on our intranet can get to the proxy server, just not Linux/390 under VM.
You will get that message everytime you do not do a 'clean' dismount of the
file systems. If, say you had the file systems mounted for the Kernal
upgrade and did not dismount your file system prior to re-IPLing your
image, then the file system would be in an 'open' state when it tries to

Right. That's a semantic misnomer from my part. I said that because that's
where the LPAR is told what load device to run from is. The thing is that
the ramdisk image worked and accessed the devices properly. Should I
manually run a silo command with the T2 option specified? I am unsure if

Someone with better Linux skills than I will need to jump in here to
address your questions about YaST and silo. It sure sounds like you
either don't have a good IPL record or what it points to is bogus.

This is native in an LPAR. We don't have VM, and cannot currently justify
the per-CP costs of licensing. Now, if we find something effective to do
with Linux, that's another story.

You could always port Hercules to Linux/390. run zOS under Hercules
and then run the assembler systems there... grin john alvord

Gordon, were you telneting to port 80 (or whatever port your proxy uses), or
just doing telnet machine-name ? Also, is this a socks proxy, or
something else? I'm not aware of any browsers under Linux/390 that support
socks proxies. There is a package (that I can't remember the name of right

The silo command does not create a file, it just writes some information
(including the ipl text found in ipleckd.boot out to the appropriate part
of the DASD unit. None of the file names used by silo are fixed, they can
be specified any way you want. The only reason I suggested doing it again

What is there to think? It's a problem, a fix has been developed, every one
needs to put it on. My Linux distribution, Slackware, has already posted
their fix on their FTP server, and notified their security mailing list. I
guess I'll be putting it on tomorrow after I get up.
