Your vdisks are fine.
Page stealing is the norm for Linux under z/VM when not
configured correctly. Your servers are not dropping from queue.
So how does VM get pages from a user that does not drop from
queue? steals 'em. And it's not like your steal rate is
impacting your performance - YET.
Linux does not know (or at least does not care) about mini disks or
not. You don't want other recommendations than 4K block size. So once
the dasd driver is loaded and told about the 3 disks, simply
dasdfmt -f /dev/dasda -b 4096 -d cdl
fdasd -a /dev/dasda
[ and also for the other 2 disks ]

Hello again,
I now have the network configured, and can get to my installation media.
Now I am ready to format my DASD. The installation manual refers me to the
dasdfmt command in the Device Drivers and Installation Commands document,
which I am currently looking at, however the examples don't
The IP address was changed in the TCPIP configuration. Does VM need to be

that the OBEYFILE command only worked temporarily while the system was

That depends entirely on what you changed. Some things
Hello All,
After changing some configuration settings to the TCPIP on z/VM version 4.4,
what do I need to do in order for the changes to take effect?
Thanks,

Did you really mean to do this? This is the directory on the FTP
server where the contents of the CD's is kept. At best you could have
it as '/' which me
John,
Are you typing in "/bin/ls" for the FTP directory path, or is that somehow
getting entered for you? If you are entering it, that doesn't look like a
good path to the installation files, does it?

Then let me register a retroactive complaint, for future reference. Don't
put things in the man page that aren't supported in the software. It only
confuses people, and wastes a lot of time, both on their part, and the
mailing list. I'll install 1.3.0 and see if I have better luck there.

I did read the man page, several times. I should have mentioned that I'm
using s390-tools 1.2.4. The text you quote does not appear in the man page
at that level. If I try to specify either prompt or timeout in the menu
section, zipl complains about an unknown keyword, and won't run.

Hello,
After getting the network configured successfully, I am now having

I have several Oracle databases running in SLES8, each with 350M storage and four
100MB v-disks.
VM partition storage is 8GB and 2GB expanded. I'm seeing page stealing sometimes
in the 90% range. Here's a typical reading:
AVGPROC-031% 01
XSTORE-72/SEC MIGRATE-/SEC
MDC READS-00/SEC WRI
Can anybody explain this in simple terms. The man page doesn't make any sense to me.
What would the following command do?
mount --move /var/lib/psql /data/var/lib/psql
All right, this is for my home system. I have /var/lib in the root filesystem. I now
want to move the "/var/lib/psql" subdirect
