I strongly recomment that people use LVM instead of partitioning.

I'll chime in here, RHEL 3 on s390 was not pretty. I highly suggest you go
to at least RHEL 4, the later the better (4.7 is the latest); if possible go
to RHEL 5.

You need to use at least RHEL4.6 to install layer2 rh. There's a bug
in pripy released that does not recognize layer2 in anaconda. 4.6
