Any ideas why the original text files show this behaviour?

even looked at the files in hexedit to see if there were any unusual

Maybe there's something strange going on behind the scenes in KDE?

That's something else and relates to the way Unix and Windows define
newline.

You could run your file through the unix2dos utility prior to moving it to
Windows, and it will most probably solve your issue.

Alternatively, if you'll be using Kate (which I think is better than
KWrite), you have Tools - End of Line - UNIX (and you can change there to
Windows/DOS)

2011-06-01 Thread Shlomo Solomon
As I already wrote, I don't want to get into an arguement about what is or
isn't LINUX, and I think the examples Meir gave illustrate why. In any case,
since I used jpilot, kwrite and OpenOffice (all Linux programs) to transfer
the files from Palm to Android, I think I'm OK.

BUT - that being said, I'm beginning to think that this is an Android problem
and I will look for a more appropriate forum. In case anyone is interested,
the reason I've come to that conclusion is that the files also look OK when I
go directly to the Dropbox site.

While on the topic of Dropbox, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Hebrew
characters in the files I created in Linux are also fine. I was even more
surprised that the built-in file browser on the Dropbox site also handles
Hebrew Open Office (.odt) files.
