The config file is in text format. Something similar to the .ini files one would find under Windows. Right click on the xawtv window and use the channel editor. Add a channel and save. This should create a small config file for you in your $HOME. Look at the xawtv documentation too. -Naren On

I have compiled 2.2.17 kernel with v4l support first inbuilt in kernel. I installed latest d/l xawtv. But i get only a frame and menu. I didn't get any TV channel. I got a comment bttv is pre-historic. I downloaded v4l2. When I untarred, I got three folders. I cold compile two folders utils and
