but I cannot find /etc/conf.modules and if I did find it, where do I add the line? Pretty much anywhere. If you can't find it, you probably don't have it, so just create it. You might want to try /etc/modules.conf instead. Depending on your distribution you might have either or both.

Brian, I am not sure how to solve your problem, but the staircase printing is due to the fact that *IX systems use only a 0x0A to represent a carriage return, whereas DOS, Windows, and OS/2 use a combination of 0x0A and 0x0D to do the same. In such cases, you will get the effect of the
