 Solved!

Things improved when i ripped cannaserver out by the roots, but the real
big culprit appears to be Konqueror. I'm running 3.0.5a -4. I don't know
if it's just how it was installed in my system, or if this is typical of
that version, but it is a huge cpu hog. I now use Mozilla - I'm not
crazy about it, but it's miles ahead of that version of Konqueror.

Check out http://kde-redhat.sf.net and get a current version of KDE. There
have been numerous speed improvements in Konqueror since 3.0.5. (Although, I
prefer Mozilla for browsing the Web.)

Tim

Some new virus? Or other nonsense? I cannot exercise it as we don't do

I got it as well and the funny thing was even if I was on windoze I
wouldn't have launched it in a browser... we got hit by nimda two years
ago and the thing I learnt was never execute anything from an email
except in notepad.

But I pity the poor shmoo's who have Wininset flavour here and are
trusting of anybody with admin in the title.

Sounds like you have a valid reason to post suggestions to the XFCE
developers. I'm sure there is development under way for an XFCE4
session manager, so feedback is the appropriate way to affect the
 process.

Actually, its mostly complete already. It will most likely appear in the
release following 4.0-final.

 an aside
I can't post to nor can I unsubscribe from the bloody XFCE list, since

Why don't you just use the mailman interface?

  One submission to Michigan's AG:

The SCO Group has been engaging in legal threats, both electronically
and in hard-copy, to further their ability to extort money from
consumers and companies in Michigan and throughout the world.

Right on, baby! I hope that all this wraps up quickly, and that we
never hear of or from these cretins again. However, since the bloody
hand of M$ is probably behind this somehow, we probably won't hear the
end of this for a long time.
