I am using custom menu in sharepoint site based on publishing template.
The search is also getting results for the menu text, this means if
the search keyword is in menu item than all the pages which have that
menu are returned by search as well.
Has someone come across this,, any ideas/sugges

If you give permission to a group in a deeper level SharePoint will add
the group with limited access to complete treee upto sitecollection, I
think the reason is to open an internal item you at least need open item
permission on parent level.
