Thanks Phill.. I think the Xserver-Nvidia issue is the problem. I was not having the problem on live sessions and iso installs on say 20120817 or there about. 20120820 The first time I tried the USB everything went fine plymouth finished and I was expecting the session to start normally. But I got

Here is the situation. I am using a live persistent USB of the Lubuntu quantal desktop amd64 20120819 to run live and install test cases. Presently I using a Dell D620 and Lenovo T61p to do full hardware installs. The Dell D620 boots up live with no problem, but the Lenovo with nvidia graphics
