Dear b-gang, what is the latest opinion (most HIP, hippiest ;-) of the form of the French baroque piece(courante most often) -- its double -setting? If the piece (normally courante) is marked AB and its double is called A'B', I would suggest that the form AA' BB' is the intended one -- in

I have to admit, I'm not thrilled with this CD and I've given it several listenings to try to get it, given the great stature of the performer. There is a huge amount of reverb, to the point where I would not have been able to tell it's gut strung, and can barely listen to it. There

Interesting. On my 7-course lute, the octave on the fifth course was way too bright and prominent. Trying a number of different diameters did not solve the problem. So, I finally opted for a plain gut unison to go with the gimped string that I already had. They turn out to balance very nicely
