Dear b-gang,
what is the latest opinion (most HIP, hippiest ;-) of the form of the
French baroque piece(courante most often) -- its double -setting? If the
piece (normally courante) is marked AB and its double is called A'B', I
would suggest that the form

Dear ones,
I read about this a year ago, and it is finally available in the
USA. I just received it, and I think it is a really nice recording
of French lute music. It is entitled: Apollon Orateur: 17th Century
French Lute Music, and it is on the label RAMEE, number is RAM 0904.
The
Two Schoeps omnis, either the MK2s or the MK2H, depending on the date
of the recording and when the MK2H was available.
Just a guess :)

I'm a big Anthony Bailes fan, and his original lute is awesome.

I have to admit, I'm not thrilled with this CD and I've given it
several listenings to try to get it, given the great stature of the
performer. There is a huge amount of reverb, to the point where I would
not have been able to tell it's gut strung, and can barely listen to
it. There
And what a pleasure for those of us in the San Francisco Bay Area to
meet our friend Ed Durbrow in person. He brought with him a fine
little 8 course lute (who was the luthier?) that is going to gut; and
he has composed two beautiful settings of poems by Shakespeare; I

Thanks for your post. Room modes can be a real problem, either for

lutemakers place. Spontaneously we shot a little film which I would
like to share with you. It's in german but I think you will find it
amusing just to look and listen to. Haven't you always wanted to know

I've been trying to get in contact with Alfredo Gile and have not gotten any

receive email?
Thanks in advance,

Just for comparison with the cello strings- a close up of my vihuela,
7th course fundamental D, (a = 409) 1.52 mm. First generation loaded

available when I could no
Interesting. On my 7-course lute, the octave on the fifth course was way too
bright and prominent. Trying a number of different diameters did not solve
the problem. So, I finally opted for a plain gut unison to go with the
gimped string that I already had. They turn out to balance very nicely
