2. install miktex
3. remove *.cls, (no textclass.lst there)
4. check for operating repository
5. add miktex\bin to environment path
6. add lyx14\bin and lyx14\python to environment path
7. install lyx without loading packages
And here it is conclusion:
The configure.py script does not work correctly. My guess is that the case
where a class is missing and MikTex is configured to
download it, but it fails to do so, is not correctly treated, or not treated at
all, by the script.

How about using a table? You can set the column widths so that the equations
are as far apart or close together as possible and the rows will always line
up.

I unistalled Lyx and started again, but without re-installing miktex. Like
magic it started to work! He did instal a package, which he asked me for

Yes. Automatic updates are OFF. But the first time i tryed it it was still
giving me problems. It was then that i uninstalled lyx and installed it again
with the miktex i had before and it worked.

Basically this is what I have done, although instead of Insert-
External I used File-Import-Latex (Plain).
I don't have Insert-External in my LyX version, which is 1.4.3, run
on a Mac. Is what I have done equivalent to what you suggest?
