In LyX 1.3.4, figures in eps format had to be saved without a preview
or else LyX would choke. Is this still true in more recent versions
of LyX, like 1.5.4?
Bruce
I do not think so - I use plenty EPS files from different sources in LyX
1.5.4 and do not have any problems with them (instead of one with 3000 dots
on chart which generates 50 MB PDF file which is really hard to open in most
DF viewers).

I don't think the problem is LyX choking, and I'm not sure the problem
has gone away. LyX should know that

I have installed the packages you mentioned, except
libaiksaurus-dev
as I could not find it (from synaptic)
How can I get the 1.5.5 source and how to do the rest (./configure. ... make
install).
Are those commands entered from terminal.

It is probably easier just to do
apt-get build-dep lyx
on the terminal command line. This will get
Thanks a Lot, Bob... also John for your suggestion.
It has been successfully updated to 1.5.5. It runs much faster than before, the
DVI is very nice so I can walk through the text easily.
Cheers
