anymore in Lyx (Error converting to loadable format), but they are shown in
the resulting pdf.
I assume some converters between formats are missing - can somebody point
out which additional programs I need to get the pdf

This a regression bug in Ghostscript 8.70. When you downgrade to Ghostscript
8.64 it will work.

You need to define a shortcut for the function buffer-update pdf2 and/or

I use some pdf graphs and after my update to Karmic, they are not shown
anymore in Lyx (Error converting to loadable format), but they are shown in
the resulting pdf.
This a regression bug in Ghostscript 8.70. When you downgrade to Ghostscript
8.64 it will work.
I'm entering this expression:
\left.\frac{R_{s}}{2f_{s}}(1+\alpha)\right|_{f_{s=4R_{s}}}
which is a common way of saying (expression) evalated substituting (value).
Is there any direct way to enter this without resorting to ERT?
