If you were lucky enough to be using PowerPoint 2010 you wouldn't have this
problem; equations editing is now built in, so equations are just like text,
instead of objects.

No, I'm pretty sure Eberhard meant that 'doc' would be the document (file) name
and 'lyx' the extension. Do your files actually have names with those two
