toggeling equation numbers in lyx 1.2.3 ?

I'm having some difficulty getting equations numbered. Toggeling Edit-Math-Toggle numbering does not seem to do anything. I am using lyx 1.2.3. I have tried both the menue and alt-m n. Is this a known bug or am I missing something here? -- Kirk R. Wythers Department of Forest
