do not use bibliography paragraph style from the drop down menu. BibTeX is
formatting the bibliography for you, including the heading.

The two boxes you are talking about are the citation references and the

If you don't want references, but only the bibliography, the use

LyX crashing when inserting graphics

2007-03-11 Thread Stefano Franchi
All of a sudden, my 1.4.3 LyX/MacOs installation has become unable to
insert graphics into a document. Every time I try Lyx crashes. The
console

shows the same line all the times:

Error locating symbol - dlcompat: Symbol _JVTDecoOpen not found

I have tried different graphic files and different file formats and it
doesn't make any difference---they all crash LyX. Interestingly,
documents containing images are no problem: they open correctly.
However, if I try to reimport the image(s) in a new file, LyX crashes.
I can only get as far as the file dialog: as soon as I select the
graphic file I have a crash. The only difference is that sometime I get
a spinning ball, sometimes the crash is instantaneous.

Any suggestion greatly welcome.

Cheers,

Stefano

It might actually be so silly that the address we have for the person with

order to contact the person who can fix the server... catch 22.

I used to have my desktop shortcut for LyX using the

C:\lyxuserdir

so I figured I would just use the same userdir for the
LyX 1.4.X version.Apparently this was a bad idea

removed the userdir and copied my .layouts over to the

Footer in a colored box -- here's how

2007-03-11 Thread Steve Litt
Hi all,

I wanted the footers in my book to look just like those in the other ebooks,
complete with a colored box footer. The MAGIC NUMBER is designed so that no
matter how one sets the top and bottom margins, or the header or footer
separations, the footer still ends up in the same place. Here's how:

\usepackage{color}
\definecolor{rust}{rgb}{0.7,0.2,0.2}
\definecolor{lightgray}{rgb}{0.8,0.8,0.8}

\newcommand{\myfootertext}{This is my book}

\newlength{\boxdrop}
\setlength{\boxdrop}{11in} % PAPER LENGTH
\addtolength{\boxdrop}{-1.7in}  % MAGIC NUMBER
\addtolength{\boxdrop}{-\headsep}
\addtolength{\boxdrop}{-\headheight}
\addtolength{\boxdrop}{-\topmargin}
\addtolength{\boxdrop}{-\textheight}
\addtolength{\boxdrop}{-\footskip}

\newcommand{\myfooter}{%
\fancyfoot[CE,CO]{
~\\[\boxdrop]\fcolorbox{black}{rust}{
\parbox[c][.6in][t]{\textwidth}{
~\\[-0.3in]
\center
\footnotesize
\sffamily
\bfseries
\textcolor{lightgray}{\myfootertext}
}
}
}
}

Then, you can invoke this just by putting this command in your LyX document
preamble:

\myfooter

complete with a colored box footer. The "MAGIC NUMBER" is designed so that no
matter how one sets the top and bottom margins, or the header or footer
separations, the footer still ends up in the same place. Here's how:

\usepackage{color}
\definecolor{rust}{rgb}{0.7,0.2,0.2}
\definecolor{lightgray}{rgb}{0.8,0.8,0.8}

\newcommand{\myfootertext}{This is my book}

\newlength{\boxdrop}
\setlength{\boxdrop}{11in} % PAPER LENGTH
\addtolength{\boxdrop}{-1.7in}  % MAGIC NUMBER
\addtolength{\boxdrop}{-\headsep}
\addtolength{\boxdrop}{-\headheight}
\addtolength{\boxdrop}{-\topmargin}
\addtolength{\boxdrop}{-\textheight}
\addtolength{\boxdrop}{-\footskip}

\newcommand{\myfooter}{%
\fancyfoot[CE,CO]{
~\\[\boxdrop]\fcolorbox{black}{rust}{
\parbox[c][.6in][t]{\textwidth}{
~\\[-0.3in]
\center
\footnotesize
\sffamily
\bfseries
\textcolor{lightgray}{\myfootertext}
}
}
}
}

Then, you can invoke this just by putting this command in your LyX document
preamble:

\myfooter

How about a quick post card to Norway? I'm sure people are always
delighted to receive a card in the post. Address see attachment.

Royal Mail from the UK two days... I'll raise postage on list approval.

Cheers, Sam
