Figure disappears when left justified

I have inserted a figure. In that figure I have inserted a png image. If I
center the png image it shows up in the compiled PDF. But if I left justify
the png file it disappears. Is this a LyX bug?

Would it make sense to have some kind of switch to change all them at once 
instead of changing each individually? I mean in addition to the current 
scheme, not to replace it.

I am asking for curiosity as I used to add \usepackage{lmodern} to the 
preamble. I admit that this could have been discussed earlier in the 
developers list and I missed the thread, apologies if that is the case. :-)

If you set Roman to "Latin Modern" and leave the rest to default, then sans 
and tt will also use the lmodern shapes. "Default" means here: "Use the 
appropriate counterpart".

In other words: "Latin Modern Roman" and "Standard" for the other shapes is 
equvalent to \usepackage{lmodern}.

Hey there!

I have been using Lyx. 1.4. for over a year and never had a problem.  
All of the sudden I was not able to convert into .pdf anymore. I  
decided to uninstall and install 1.5 now. The same problem occurs.  
Whenever I try to view the file as a .pdf, the following screen pops up:


Keine Information vorhanden, um Dateien im -Format nach png zu  
konvertieren.

Definieren Sie einen Konverter in den Einstellungen.

(it's in German, I am sorry. it says: No information available to  
convert data from -format to png. Define a converter in your  
preferences.)


which I tried but somehow I can't manage to solve the problem.  
Needless to say, that I am not very fit in all this. It has just been  
working perfectly all the time...

Does this happen even with a short test document? It sounds as if it 
wouldn't---as if you have some kind of image in your document that LyX 
doesn't know how to convert. Delete the last half of the document and 
see if that helps. If so, delete the last quarter, etc, and figure out 
what image is the problem. Then report back.

I think it's a consequence of LyX setting the input encoding to latin1 
(and surrounding the listing with \begingroup ... \endgroup).  There's 
something in the manual for the listings package that says that the 
package can't cope with multibyte character encodings (other than in 
comments).  Goofy encodings confuse me, so I can sympathize if they 
confusing the listings package.  Still, am I right that forcing latin1 
in the listings environment means that you cannot in fact put, say, CJK 
characters in a comment that escapes to LaTeX?  Seems a bit restrictive.


Maybe you should open a bugzilla entry about this.

No, without those, it shows exactly the same behaviour.

emphasis as underline?

When I toggle the emphasis on a word it shows up on the screen as italic, but 
when I make a dvi or pdf, the word shows up underlined.  In one of the LyX 
tutorials, I've found a statement saying that emphasis usually shows up as 
italic on most systems (but this can be changed).  So, it seems that mine is 
not most systems, but if it can be changed from italic, it should be able to be 
changed to italic--but how?

  What typeface are you using? Your system may not have an Italic font for
it.

lucida fonts

I am trying to use my lucida fonts, which work fine with my Latex, in  
my LyX. I purchased these fonts from PCTex with the lucimatx package  
(which automatically loads the fonts both for text and math) written  
by Walter Schmidt.  This package is meant to replace amssymb and  
amsfonts (but not amsmath). I can load the package by adding a line in  
the preamble option in LyX. However, I cannot seem to turn off the  
automatic loading of amssymb...


Is there any way I can do this in LyX?

I am having no success adding
\usepackage{lucimatx}
in my document preamble, using Document>Settings>Latex Preamble The  
reason is that LyX automatically loads amssymb (and I think that also  
amsfonts) as soon as characters such as \mathbb{E} are employed. Is  
there any way to turn off this behavior?


I tried using the Settings>Math Option and turning of AMS math (and  
loading it myself the preamble) with no luck. That only controls  
amsmath, not the automatic loading of amssymb (or amsfonts I believe).


For reference, things work fine if I write a latex file such as:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{amsmath}
\usepackage{lucimatx}

\begin{document}

Some math:
\begin{equation}
\mathbb{E}[f(x)]=\int_0^\infty f(x)g(x)dx
\end{equation}

\end{document}

The problem is if I try to do something analogous in LyX (with  
\usepackage{lucimatx} stuck in the Latex preamble under settings) LyX  
loads amssymb which conflicts with lucimatx and I get an error which  
stops the compile. I can see that the line \usepackage{amssymb} is  
added at the top of the preamble in an export from LyX.


Any help much appreciated.

Hallo Michele,

I'm no great expert, but I suspect that LyX always shows emphasis as
italic, and exports that as tags. The post processor will then select the
way to render emphasis. I suspect that you TeX environment is configured
to render emphasis differently - or maybe you have selected a layout that
modifies its definition. Does this happen with the default layout too?

Ivan asked me to post the follow-up to this.  (We continued the 
discussion offline.)


Turns out I was wrong.  If you turn off AMS loading but then use an AMS 
symbol in a formula somewhere (such as \mathbb{R}), LyX spots this and 
automatically loads the amssymb and amsfonts packages, which are 
incompatible with lucimatx.  The best solution would probably be a 
couple more check boxes to allow the user to suppress automatic loading 
of those packages as well.

The listings package does not require or force the \begingroup + 
\inputencoding{latin1} + \endgroup commands, nor the two blank lines. 
The blank lines are purely LyX.  It seems to me that there has already 
been discussion elsewhere of situations in which LyX inserts unwanted 
blank lines.  As far as the input encoding goes, my guess is that 
whoever coded the listings support put this in to prevent the user from 
accidentally blowing up the package by using a multibyte encoding. 
However, as I mentioned above, the package specifically provides an 
escape-to-LaTeX mechanism that allows the user to insert text from other 
encodings.  This presumably would be blocked by the current LyX 
implementation (although I'm not the person to test this, since I'm 
blissfully ignorant about non-Latin encodings).


One last thing.  The listings package allows you to specify an escape 
character that delimits strings that should be passed directly to LaTeX. 
 So, taking an excerpt from the .tex version of Álvaro's sample file,


...
\begin{lstlisting}[escapechar=`]
`\inputencoding{latin1}`
This is a lstlisting code added through an inset.
LyX surrounds this with\begingroup and\endgroup,
and creates a new paragraph after this one.
\end{lstlisting}
This is indented.\LyX{}-Code behaves differently than code listing
insets.Isn't this a contradiction to the User Guide?

seems to work.  I can't test whether the encoding limitation is being 
enforced, but the \inputencoding command is not printed in the listing, 
and the following line is not indented.  The problem with this approach 
is that different users will want different escape characters.


So fundamentally, I think, it's a question of whether protecting the 
user from himself on the encoding issue is worth the price.

Why 2 bibliographies?

Hello, I use LyX 1.5.5 with Inlinebib and Koma-script book with in-line full
citations style (working almost perfect).
The problem is the final bibliography (which would resume and sort all
references already cited in the text):

the unwanted result is 2 bibliographies:
1st one with correct Koma chapter character style
2nd one is with another (roman?) character style

Every reference is listed in just one of the two, with almost no criteria,
perhaps some of the most complex references are in 2nd bibliography... And
perhaps there are some more references in the 1st one. No references left
outside the 2 bibliographies.
I'm puzzled...

1.6 beta4 crashing on Ubuntu

I have just compiled Lyx 1.6 beta4 on Ubuntu (8.04) and installed it. When I
tried to open my Lyx documents, one document is constantly crashing when I
click on the title in the document (very strange).  Can someone tell me how
to fix it?

Table Alignment

I'm using Lyx 1.5.3 on a Mac, with Mac OS X version 10.4.11.

I have a table inside a float, and the word "Measure" on the table  
looks aligned in Lyx,
but when I compile into pdf it moves up. I haven't been able to fix
