Changing the color of notes in pdf output

Is it somehow possible to change the color of notes ("Greyed out notes") in
the pdf that lyx outputs? (I'm using LyX 1.6rc2 and texlive running on

installing texlive-latex-extra should've solved that for you.

The problem here is that the error message is not displayed within

Debian may want to add a package dependency then, or at least "recommends" ?

Dear all,
After installing mytek and lyx_1.6.0 on a windows XP, all the documents classes
are unavailable.

I googled and none of the following helped me:

step_1) Make sure that the MiKTeX bin directory is on my system command path:
-> yes it is, I can launch latex from anywhere through a console.

step_2) Check if for example the class "report" is available.
At a DOS prompt, run 'kpsewhich report.cls'

and kpsewhich returns:
C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.7\tex\latex\base\report.cls
-> ok the class is available

Step_3) I checked in my home directory, which is:
C:\Documents and Settings\me\Application Data\lyx16\

and I printed an extract of the file “textclass.lst”:

# This file declares layouts and their associated definition files
# (include dir. relative to the place where this file is).
# It contains only default values, since chkconfig.ltx could not be run
# for some reason. Run ./configure.py if you need to update it after a
# configuration change.

Sure, writing books is one of the main purposes of LyX.

How easy is it to convert the file to pdf?

Trivial, there is a menu choice for doing exactly that.

Can Lyx edit pdf files?

No, but you won't need to do that if you do your writing in LyX.
Make your corrections in the LyX file, then create a new PDF each time.
The conversion is easy enough.

LyX is a nice tool for making new PDF files, it does nothing at all
with existing PDF files. Find other tools for that.

If you don't mind continuous page numbering for the two volumes, I'd suggest
creating it as one document (with child documents as convenient -- I usually
use one for each chapter) using a document class which uses Parts (such as
the various book classes), and put each volume into a Part. Then generate a
PDF file for the whole book and use PDFTK to split it into the two volumes.
You could use this tool to add a copy of the TOC to the second volume if
desired.

If you want separate page numbering for each volume, it's a bit more
complicated. You would need to reset the page number at the beginning of Part
2, but I think this would give problems with cross references, the table of
contents and the index.

The TOC and cross references ought to work, but there will obviously be
the problem of deciding if it is "page 45" in volume one or volume two.

It is possible to use parts, and use the part number as part of the
cross reference. It is probably best to include the part number only

when the page isn't in the same volume. Such things can be programmed
in latex, and the extra time might be worth it if there are lots
of such cross references. Or just type "volume I/II" explixitly when
needed, although that will give you grief if you ever move a chapter

from one volume to another.

But ... if you sell this Ebook, I'd recommend personalizing it for each user
as per some of my previous posts. Personalizing it means compiling to PDF via
script rather than a menu choice.

Fast typing - LyX follows slowly only

Hello,

For a long time I valued LyX for its swiftness when typing.
Something changed recently, however and I do not
have an idea what is causing this.

When I type the letters only show up slowly on the screen. This makes
working with LyX really cumbersome.

I assumed this could have something to do with "Auto Completion". But

Any ideas?

The combination of Long Document + View Source + Complete Source +
Automatic Update could be the culprit.

Disable "Complete Source" and it should be good again.

Toggle Toolbars off?

2008-11-28 Thread Ivan Werning
When I type a math the math toolbar and math-panel toolbar
automatically toggles at the bottom of the screen. (Mac OS X 10.5.5
with Lyx 1.6)

This is a nice idea, but sometimes has some problems. For example, if
I was typing at the bottom of the screen, then I may get the stuff I'm
writing covered up by the toolbar! After hitting a key the screen will
move, but it isn't ideal to be left blinded for a moment.

Anyway, since I barely need it, for this and other reasons I'd rather
have it turned off by default and then opt in at will. But I couldn't
figure out how to do this.

So how can I get the toggled math and math-panel toolbars to be off?

Thanks

Thanks for your comments.

No - in Tools/Preferences/Look & Feel / Graphics is checked but the
item "Instant Preview" is off.

I un-checked also all items in this section such as "Enable tool tips
in main work area" and even tried to un-check all Session items as
well.

Still slow.

Thanks for your comments.

In a development version of 1.6 I realized this problem and thus I
usually do not show the source code (view source unchecked). The
"complete source" item therin was also switched off. Automatic update
was switched on, switching it off does not change the situation,
however. The document is short, it has only 8 pages.

Any further ideas?

Hellmut,

I have texlive-core-2008-r4 and lyx-1.6.0 correctly installed on
gentoo linux (32 bit machines). I think you have a 64bit machine and
texlive-core has a bug that somehow is triggered o such a setup.

You should post a bug in Gentoo's bugzilla.

Omnigraffle - latexit - linback

2008-11-28 Thread Brice Thurin

Good Evening,

I am running OS 10.5 on a macbook pro with lyx 1.6, texlive2008,
Omnigraffle 5.1 and latexit 1.16. I am using the script og-export.scpt
provided on the lyx wiki.

Things are working fine when i use the latexit services from
omnigraffle, except for the quality of the output of the font on the
pdf output(using pdflatex).
However when i just drag and drop the equation from latexit to
omnigraffle, lyx viewer and latex generate an error that they cannot
the size of the graphic. If i save the omnigraffle file to pdf and
then use it in lyx everythings work fine and the quality of the output
is good. However i would like to be able to include straight away the
omnigraffle to lyx.

I was wondering if anybody could help me on this one.

Edit Header on 1 page of a Koma book

Would be too simple. Moving it up to the recommends would not only give you
the ~20MB texlive-latex-extra but also a lot of -doc packages of about 100MB.
I'm not yet sure if we really want to blow up the default 'apt-get install lyx'

Hellmut,

I have a full texlive installation on 64-bit Gentoo without problems: I don't
think it is a 64-bit problem.

One more simple check: is your /usr or / partition at 100%?

This can happen easily with Gentoo when installing large packages (and texlive
is immense) because the downloaded file is written to /usr/portage/distfiles,
then the downloaded file is extracted, probably to /tmp or /var/tmp, then the
package is installed, in /usr/share for texlive. This can easily exceed a
gigabyte of disk usage, and depending on your partition arrangement all of
these directories may be on the same partition.
