update doesn't work
Hi! I've seen this before with LyX 1.6.5 on Mac OS X but never reported it. Now, working with LyX 2.0.0 alpha3, I have the same problem: View works fine, but I've never got Update working. I've to close the current view (whatever PDF viewer I am using, Adobe or Skim, for instance), to get an updated view. Please, am I missing something obvious? Thanks! Editing while spell-checking
Is there some way I could edit (make small changes) to a file, at the same time as I'm spellchecking it? Reason: I notice some small word needs to be italicised or changed to lower-case, but under the current way of doing things, I have to exit from the spellchecker, make the change, and then go back. It will accompany a Quantitative Genetics essay. It will include text

followed by the solution by itself that will include numbered
mathematical formulas (they will be cross-referenced in the text) and
some more text explaining the reasoning.
What I definitely WILL suggest is that you spend a bit of time creating
character styles, or paragraph layouts, for these different sorts of
things (Problem, Basis, Solution). This will allow you to apply a
consistent format across your book. It will take work to get it
right---you'll want to study chapter 5 of the customization manual, and
you'll need to learn a little LaTeX (or else just ask questions)---but
you do not have to do this work now and can mess with it over time. I'm
attaching a trivial module that does nothing but define those three
layouts, give them pretty labels, and make them do nothing special. Use
them now; define their behavior later.

Wrapping text around an image
Hi,
I am trying to wrap text around an image. I attached how I was doing it
in HTML but I can't seem to figure out how to do this with LyX.
When I used the floating figure, the image was centered which was not
the style I was looking for.
When I used the \begin{wrapfigure} LaTex directive all the text was
placed under the image (sized to the image) instead of wrapping around.
Has anyone figured out how to do this?
I am using version 1.6.5 if that makes a difference.

configuration of modified toolbars
Hello users I modified the original stdtoolbars.inc of LyX 1.6.5. according to my needs. 1. I added two new toolbars called " Letras griegas y otras" and "Sets and Logic". But you have to manually edit stdtoolbars.inc file, but this is difficult for a beginner. My idea is to have a new o extra customizable toolbar, with symbols that are in other toolbars and easily editable. I think in a customizable Symbol toolbar with buttons of the frequently used symbols. In this Extra toolbar , you can add as many symbols as you want from the the others toolbars, and also and you can remove those symbols you don't need. In this form, you can have a panel with symbols of the other panels. Do you use vertical space to separate paragraphs?
There is a LyX bug.
Workaround: in Document>Settings>Text
Format>Paragaph Separator select
(*) Indent
and in the LaTeX preamble write
\usepackage{parskip}.
Otherwise, search for "enumitem" on wiki.lyx.org.

I simply use the standard option "" and the associated "On Page
". The formatted reference and the" On Page"
do not work, but we have been knowing that for weeks.
I think that my problems comes from this preamble line, that I found

Could someone tell me: 1) Where does Lyx stores the packages in Mac, Linux, and Windows if they are different? 2) Should I do anything special to install a package beyond moving it to the right directory and do a reconfigure? 3) How can I check if a package is available or installed? 4) Are the commands of the installed new package visible to Lyx front-end and one can select them through menu bar? or should we use ERT for them? Hello, Thanks for your help, it started working. I was almost going to givup. Here is what I did: Document -> Settings -> PDF Properties Then I checked almost everything, to be sure I would see if any of these feature has some effect. Then, I hit the "Save as Document Defaults" button. I think this button made all of these options being activated. Then Ok button then Close button. I exported to PDF using pdflatex facility.
