You refer to the mouse pointer when talking about the I-beam cursor. The pointer indeed is set to the thin I-beam by LyX for the work space. This is common for editors - but as you already mentioned - not very prominent on screen. I have this I-beam for every editable input area - the browser, the mail client, the terminal window, etc... Perhaps you can configure you Qt-environment to display a more visible IBeamCursor for you. Stephan PS: Below you'll find an excerpt from the list of the cursor shapes and their intended use. ArrowCursor <> The standard arrow cursor. UpArrowCursor <> An arrow pointing upwards toward the top of the screen. CrossCursor <> A crosshair cursor, typically used to help the user accurately select a point on the screen. WaitCursor <> An hourglass or watch cursor, usually shown during operations that prevent the user from interacting with the application. IBeamCursor <> A caret or ibeam cursor, indicating that a widget can accept and display text input.

I had the cursor color set to red, but when in the body of a document it was a thin (I assume 1 pixel) I-beam. So, I went to Editing -> controls and increased the cursor width to 5 pixels. Now I see a fat red bar where the cursor was last clicked. Still, when I move the cursor it's the thin black line. But, I think this will make it easier to find where it belongs when I move back. Thank you, Rich

Setting Defaults
Is it possible to set 'overwrite' as the default when exporting via pdflatex? That's the option I want with documents and, particularly, with beamer class presentations that are checked frequently. Note to devs: Think of how to make the cursor thicker and more visible for those of us with older eyeballs. That 1-pixel "I" beam is almost impossible to locate quickly when the LyX window takes up most of the virtual desktop. Being able to select the width (and color) would make us old farts much more productive because we would not need to find the darn cursor all the time! Thanks, Rich

In my opinion they're more trouble than they're worth. You know, since you have only one appendix and you're not really using it like standard appendices, it might be easier to build the appendix line in a style in the layout or in ERT, use \phantomsection() to enable correct crossreferences, and \addtocontents so it gets shown in your table of contents. I think you'll have to use a little trial and error to get it to work just right, but it seems to me to be the most direct route. After you 'Start Appendix Here' instead of 'Section' environment use 'Section*' (unnumbered). I guess this should do what you want. Liviu Thanks guys. That was too easy.

The citation style is selected in the settings of the BibTeX inset (Insert > List / TOC > BibTeX Bibliography). In the lyx web page 'bibtex tips', the instruction to use natbib starts with the option 'format', but this is not visible in the menu bar of lyx? I'm sure what is meant here. Do you mean this page: http://wiki.lyx.org/BibTeX/Tips and specifically where it says: When this is done, use natbib (Format→Document→Bibliography→Use natbib). Insert the reference list where you want it to appear (usually at the end of the document). Then select your .bst file as Style. I would guess that this page is not up to date. In Document > Settings > Bibliography you can select natbib. -- Julien

How to remove letters from Appendix? [Appendix A -> Appendix]
Hi all, how can I remove the lettering of the Appendix? Example: When I start the appendix, the PDF output file displays "Appendix A". I would like it to simply show "Appendix", and would like cross-references in the text to show "Appendix". Thanks!

The [magyar] option to babel is not needed. LyX adds magyar to the global document options. It is recommended to use polyglossia (instead of babel) with [Xe|Lua]TeX. LyX does this automatically (should, at least) if you do not override this choice with a custom setting. > My questions are: > 1. Because the code that inserts these lines is not taking into account that no Unicode -> 8-bit LaTeX is required. You can ignore this in this case. However this bug has more severe consequences in other cases, where packages (textcomp, tipa, marvosym, pmboxdraw, ifsym, bbding, pifont ...) are loaded that * slow down the processing * may interfere with (Lua/Xe)-tex * give spurious errors when the package is missing but not required with Unicode-aware TeX engines.
