Lyx setup for ASA style (Americal Sociological Associoation)
Dear all, I would love to use Lyx for my Phd thesis and academic papers but I am close to giving up as I don't manage to adapt it to my needs. I would like to use Lyx in combination with Bibdesk or Zotero, and use an ASA document style (American Sociological Association). This includes in-text references (e.g. (Giddens:22)), the bibliography formatting, the overall text structure etc. I was neither able to find appropriate document templates nor to adapt the existing ones. Is there any not-too-difficult way of setting up Lyx for the ASA style without diving into the details of Latex? I am using Mac OS 10.7.2 and Lyx 2.0.1. Thanking you, David

A4 paper in tufte book class
Is there a way to use A4 paper in Tufte book class? The Tufte-LaTeX def file is prepared for A4. LyX is using Letter now by default. I used A4 without problems one year ago in LyX 1.6, but in 2.0.0 the option Format under Document Settings - Page Layout is greyed out. Re: Help Formatting and fonts... Beggining Thesis! Critical...
Kenedy, You are clearly in the hands of experts here, so I shall not try to muddle the water. However, after several years of using Miktex on Windows, I have switched to TexLive, which seems to be the general trend. I use Texlive on Linux, and wanted to have the same Latex system on both Windows and Linux (Ubuntu). In my experience, TexLive is easier to maintain (upgrade). In addition, after you install it (on Windows), you can click Start/Run: tlmgr gui and see a list of all the Latex packages with a short description of what each one does, plus some other information about the package. You can double click on the package name and get a longer description. You might consider trying that. Unlike the Republicans and Democrats in Congress, TexLive and MikTex can coexist and function in the same system, and Lyx can use either. Flex-insets in Math mode
Hello, I have waited a little bit before harassing you again with my Sage extension problem. Concerning the possibility of including Sage commands in the math mode, I have not found any solution. Is there a Flex-inset type that can be inserted in a math box, without being interpreted before the compilation of the document by pdflatex+Sage+pdflatex? When I insert my \sage{} instruction in a math expression, Lyx tries to interpret what is inside, even if I have set the inset as Passtrough=1. I know that I can do it using an ERT but I will have to type the complete expression in the ERt too in this case :-( (well, I know that I could type it in a math box and then copy and paste in the ERT, but I cannot use the conveniences of Lyx for displayed equations and equation sets even in this case). -- Prof. Murat Yildizoglu Université Montesquieu Bordeaux IV GREThA (UMR CNRS 5113) Avenue Léon Duguit 33608 Pessac cedex France yi...@u-bordeaux4.fr http://yildizoglu.info http://www.twitter.com/yildizoglu

If that is the problem, you can find some sort of solution, I think, in this thread: http://marc.info/?l=lyx-devel=131914585121454=2 Richard
A4 paper in tufte book class
Is there a way to use A4 paper in Tufte book class? The Tufte-LaTeX def file is prepared for A4. LyX is using Letter now by default. I used A4 without problems one year ago in LyX 1.6, but in 2.0.0 the option "Format" under "Document Settings - Page Layout" is greyed out. It does not make a difference if I set the default paper size to A4 in "Preferences - LaTeX". Kindly, Roel Schipper
Class Not Found After Upgrades
Currently running LyX-2.0.1 on Slackware-13.1. It's been several years since I loaded the .lyx file for my book, but I want to do so now. However, lyx tells me that svmono.cls is not installed. When I check I find it on the system in: /home/rshepard/.lyx/layouts/svmono.cls /home/rshepard/documents/eia-book/submittal/svmono.cls /home/rshepard/documents/eia-book/mono/styles/svmono.cls /usr/share/lyx/tex/svmono.cls What do I need to do to assure lyx that it's actually present? TIA, Rich

I hope this is helpful-- Ehud Kaplan On 10/29/2011 10:18 AM, Kenedy Torcatt wrote: Hello... Where can I find a description for every MiKTEX package Tht's is been using inside hte LyX file preamble?.

I forgot that in the interval since I wrote my book I migrated from tetex to TeXLive. Sigh. However, copying it to /usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/base/, reconfiguring lyx, and restarting the application did not resolve the error. I'll read the latest users guide and see what it tells me. Lualatex and Lyx.
I am recommending Lyx for beginners, even though I don't actually use it myself. I note that lualatex is now accommodated by Lyx. That is of course a tremendous advance. Here is my question: is there a guide for beginners that has been updated to include using lualatex in a Lyx document? LyX/Sweave on windows 7
This is a solution rather than a question. I am running Windows 7 Enterprise (V. 6.1, build 7601, SP1). I had followed the instructions at http://wiki.lyx.org/uploads/LaTeX/SweaveR/lyx_with_r_and_sweave_instructions.pdf, and while both versions of the batch file worked from the command line, LyX couldn't get past generating the noweb file. I finally tracked down the solution. The converter command (step 8) has to be "Rweave.bat $$i" rather than "Rweave $$i". Bruce

My favourite is the XY-pic package (http://www.tug.org/applications/Xy-pic/), which is useful for all kinds of diagrams. To use it you need to install XY-pic (the 'xy' latex package), and in LyX, in the preamble (Documents->Settings->LaTeX preamble) you should write \usepackage[all]{xy} \newcommand{\pd}[2]{\frac{\partial #1}{\partial #2}} %this line is only for your specific diagram Then in the body, you create an ERT box (Ctrl-L) and inside you can put the following: \[ \xymatrix{ & & & z \ar@{-}[dll]_{\pd{z}{x}} \ar@{-}[drr]^{\pd{z}{y}} & & & \\ & x \ar@{-}[dl]_{\pd{x}{s}} \ar@{-}[dr]^{\pd{x}{t}} & & & & y \ar@{-}[dl]_{\pd{y}{s}} \ar@{-}[dr]^{\pd{y}{t}} & \\ s & & t & & s & & t \\ } \] A first look at this might seem daunting, but once you read the xy user's guide it will seem quite straight-forward. -- Ernesto Posse Modelling and Analysis in Software Engineering School of Computing Queen's University - Kingston, Ontario, Canada

Re: LyX/Sweave on windows 7
Thanks for the solution! I'm not sure if the author of that document can see this email, so I guess you'd better cc Jeff or Dave. As for the batch file, I mentioned this once to JMarc, and I do not if this is a good solution, because if the user knows how to modify PATH, he/she does not need the Rweave.bat trick. So which way is better to go? Teach Windows users PATH or use the batch files to find R automatically? Or let LyX borrow the idea of the batch file as a part of its configuration? e.g. when (re)configuring LyX, the path to Rscript.exe will be searched automatically.
