LyX and AEA manuscripts

2012-09-17 Thread Peter Coles
Hi All --

I am preparing a manuscript according to AEA specs following
http://wiki.lyx.org/Examples/AEA and using the aea.lyx template.

I hope to ask a few rudimentary questions
here, and perhaps ultimately we can improve the wiki. Here's the first:

1) In aea.lyx, the documentation reads:

Also, choose typesetting mode as the class option. Available options are:

finalmode to typeset the manuscript for submission for publication
reviewmode to typeset a blind review copy
draftmode to typeset a draft copy with 1.5-line spacing (or your own choice of
spacing).

Draftmode is listed by default. I cannot edit this to finalmode, even upon
unchecking the box predefined. Does anyone know how to change to finalmode?

Thank you!
Peter

DVI bug?

2012-09-17 Thread BB

I use Lyx Version 2.0.2 on mint (13) mate 64 bit.

I needed some very long time to figure out, why the rotation of the cell
(in the first column) and the TeX-Code (in column 2+3) does not work.

At least I found, that this is a problem of DVI. Displaying the Document
with DVI-Latex works correct!

May be knowing this will prevent some users wasting lots of time looking
for he bug in their document.

place available to me seems to be the users' list archives. By attaching
material to a posting to the list I can make a link to the archive. From
previous experience, there is (understandably) a size limit to this and if
the posting+attachment is too big it doesn't get archived. Does anyone know
what the size limit is? 50 KB? 100 KB?

Whatever the limit is, public mailing lists shouldn't be used for
storing large files. If you're looking for a temporary solution then a
Dropbox, SpiderOak or tinyupload.com workaround would do just fine.
But best would be to simply wait for the lyx.org server to be restored
and then put your info on the wiki.

The problem for me all year has been that when I click on Upload (top
right of the wiki screen) all I get is a blank page. Reading
http://wiki.lyx.org/Site/AboutUploading#toc2, Trouble with the file
manager? it mentions problems from not having JavaScript and cookies
enabled. I'm using Firefox; both are enabled. I know there is a password
required to use the Upload repository, but I'm unable to even get to the
log-in screen.

Hi Andrew,

I don't think this has anything to do with things on your side. No one
has been able to upload. Here are some related threads:

It would be nice to get this fixed but I think the only person who
knows how to fix this is MIA.

This is also a feature I sorely miss. Unless you only have
a few changes, the LyX display quickly becomes unreadable.
The consequence is that the the resulting pdf can have errors
that are overlooked in LyX, a typical example being missing
spaces.
