This would a) make the editing of the preamble a lot easier (at least on my KDE, the present dialog behaves odd (different keybindings, DEL does Backspace ...) b) allow the definition of a math-macro in the preamble and thus keep the main document clean (and eliminate the need for a included file of math-macros). latex2html misplaces images/converting to m$ word
I need to convert my document to word doc-file. I thought about converting from lyx to html and the converting this to .doc with staroffice. missing foiltex
Hello all Lyxers, I am just trying to add a new documentclass 'a la carte' (according to the help documentation, especially customization part). Unfortunately LyX doesn't recognize the added foiltex class. Here is what happened till now: 1. Creating a new directory and copying all necessary file to /usr/local/texmf/latex/foiltex (containing .styand .cls files from tar archive) 2. setting environment variable in /home/.bashprofile as suggested in the docs (TEXMFLOCAL = /usr/local/texmf TEXMF = {$HOMETEXMF,!!$TEXMFLOCAL,!!TEXMFMAIN} 3. running texhash (alternatively: texhash /usr/local/texmf) 4. concluding the installation by reconfiguring LyX and restart. This used to happen on a RH7.2 box shipping Lyx-1.1.6fix4 and a normal working TeX/LaTeX - installation. I should have missed something but I don't get at the moment! Are there any ideas to make things go ? Thanks Thomas

template complains about eps
Hi I have a lyx file which I can open in lyx, and view, print etc. The file in question is a lyx file I have put together for a quote template for our lab, and it includes an eps file which displays in a footnote at the botteom of the quote. If I copy this file to the lyx templates directory, and then call it up from the New from temp[lates menu option, it complains it can't determine the size of the graphic (as this is an eps file, I'm guessing that it can't determine the size because ut can't find the file). If I save the file and do a diff with my original, the only differences are this: 119c119 file ../../lib/text/lhead/ukas-testing-WoB-SMTL-top-lhs.eps --- file /home/lib/text/lhead/ukas-testing-WoB-SMTL-top-lhs.eps If I open the template file directly from the main menu, I can view it. It seems to me that during the template process, something is mangling the path to a relative instead of absolute pathname. Should it do this, or is it a bug ? Pete

Well it's not, I removed all eps figures (leaving only equations) and there's still the same problem. I cut down the .tex file, and just can not see any pattern why latex2html fails on this. Can anyone help? I'm using Debian Woody with its stock latex2html 2000-beta1-5. When converting the following example, anything.eps doesn't show at all but is replaced with text inline-math-here. And inline-math-here is not in the text as inline. \documentclass[english]{article} \usepackage{babel} \usepackage{graphics} \makeatletter \makeatother \begin{document} Text here doesnt matter what. \begin{figure} \includegraphics{anything.eps} \end{figure} Line that contains math, inline math next $inline-math-here$ end of inline math. \end{document}

Afterward I ran the lyx-file (there was no emergency safe, but the lyx file which crashed was available). 200 errors after the table suggests to me that the contents of the cells of the table were not reset by the action before. I therefore checked the lyx-file with a normal editor. I had to insert at three places a \clearpage which I did not need before the table was inserted. The places were not related to the place were the table had been inserted. The dvi file showed finally the table, but displaced in the lower right corner covering much of the table legend. With the normal Table environment it s the same. This is what I have in my preamble: \newcommand{\clearemptydoublepage}{\newpage{\pagestyle{empty} \cleardoublepage}} \pagestyle{fancyplain} \addtolength{\headwidth}{\marginparsep} \addtolength{\headwidth}{\marginparwidth} \renewcommand{\chaptermark}[1]% {\markboth{#1}{}} \renewcommand{\sectionmark}[1]% {\markright{\thesection\ #1}} \lhead[\fancyplain{}{\bfseries\thepage}]% {\fancyplain{}{\bfseries\rightmark}} \rhead[\fancyplain{}{\bfseries\leftmark}]% {\fancyplain{}{\bfseries\thepage}} \cfoot[]{} \usepackage[round,comma]{natbib} \def\myCleardoublepage{\myClearpage\if@twoside \ifodd\c@page\else \hbox{}\if@twocolumn\hbox{}\fi\fi\fi} I am using \caption[short legend]{long legend} and widetable. # I did not find a note about it in the Known bugs Help Menu. It takes time to correct these problems and therefore I though to report on it. Thanks, I'll try. Tried. Two points: - informaltable also support thead. I shouldnt have to go to long table ('normal' tables are converted by lyx in informaltable and 'long' tables in table). - A trick to have this is to 1/ create a long table, set the head row, 2/ go back to an normal table: the head attribute persist (but that's not very elegant). - There is a bug in the use of thead. Instead of closing it with /thead it is closed with again a thead (of course failed). - Orphans table row That should be an issue of jadetex. LyX is not reponsible for those. OK, so, where to ask ? A few other questions: - Footnotes are not at foot but a the end of the doc (guess it's defined somewhere in the DSL...). - The text wrap is sometimes faulty (going beyon the page). Think it's also JadeTex here. - The 'return' character (made by CTRL-return creating a red return arrow in the lyx document) is not honored in the PS output. That's all for now. The error message pops up after the second LaTeX pass. I've checked out the .dvi file that's left in the temporary LyX directory and the URL's show up fine. I've tried the following two syntaxes in the .bib file: howpublished = {\url{http://www.lyx.org}}, howpublished = {\url|http://www.lyx.org|}, Right now I have no clue what the problem is. English, Greek, Hebrew, and Unicode.
Dear Lyx users, I am wanting to get set up to write books in the English language, but with some Greek and Hebrew mixed in with the English both in the main text and also in the footnotes. Can anyone advise me how to get set up for this? Is it possible and advisable to use unicode fonts? I was told some things on this list that lead me to believe that unicode fonts are the way to go, but I haven't been able to get set up properly on my Win2k machine. That is why I'm intending to install Linux and LyX on another computer. Also, am I correct in believing that each character in a unicode font is two bytes wide no matter what accent marks it may or may not have? Louis

Pete

Well it's not, I removed all eps figures (leaving only equations) and there's still the same problem. I cut down the .tex file, and just can not see any pattern why latex2html fails on this. Can anyone help? I'm using Debian Woody with its stock latex2html 2000-beta1-5. When converting the following example, anything.eps doesn't show at all but is replaced with text inline-math-here. And inline-math-here is not in the text as inline. \documentclass[english]{article} \usepackage{babel} \usepackage{graphics} \makeatletter \makeatother \begin{document} Text here doesnt matter what. \begin{figure} \includegraphics{anything.eps} \end{figure} Line that contains math, inline math next $inline-math-here$ end of inline math. \end{document}

Afterward I ran the lyx-file (there was no emergency safe, but the lyx file which crashed was available). 200 errors after the table suggests to me that the contents of the cells of the table were not reset by the action before. I therefore checked the lyx-file with a normal editor. Here are the relevant parts: column alignment=center valignment=top leftline=true rightline=true width= special= row topline=true bottomline=true newpage=false cell multicolumn=0 alignment=center valignment=top topline=true bottomline=false leftline=true rightline=false rotate=false usebox=none width= special= \begin_inset Text \layout Standard \lang english 22 \end_inset /cell cell multicolumn=0 alignment=center valignment=top topline=true bottomline=false leftline=true rightline=false rotate=false usebox=none width= special= \begin_inset Text \layout Standard I removed the \lang english with the editor and re-ran the lyx file. Has somebody else tried to use a different language-template for translations and ran into difficulties and how did you go around the problems arising? ### Thanks for suggestions Wolfgang

Louis

I'm using package algorithm (ie. algorithm floats), which might not be supported in latex2html.
missing foiltex
Hello all Lyxers, I am just trying to add a new documentclass 'a la carte' (according to the help documentation, especially customization part). Unfortunately LyX doesn't recognize the added foiltex class. Here is what happened till now: 1. Creating a new directory and copying all necessary file to "/usr/local/texmf/latex/foiltex" (containing ".sty"and ".cls" files from tar archive) 2. setting environment variable in /home/.bashprofile as suggested in the docs (TEXMFLOCAL = /usr/local/texmf TEXMF = {$HOMETEXMF,!!$TEXMFLOCAL,!!TEXMFMAIN} 3. running "texhash" (alternatively: texhash /usr/local/texmf) 4. concluding the installation by reconfiguring LyX and restart. This used to happen on a RH7.2 box shipping Lyx-1.1.6fix4 and a "normal" working TeX/LaTeX - installation.

If I copy this file to the lyx templates directory, and then call it up from the "New from temp[lates" menu option, it complains it can't determine the size of the graphic (as this is an eps file, I'm guessing that it can't determine the size because ut can't find the file). If I save the file and do a diff with my original, the only differences are this: 119c119 < file ../../lib/text/lhead/ukas-testing-WoB-SMTL-top-lhs.eps --- > file /home/lib/text/lhead/ukas-testing-WoB-SMTL-top-lhs.eps If I open the template file directly from the main menu, I can view it. It seems to me that during the template process, something is mangling the path to a relative instead of absolute pathname. Should it do this, or is it a bug ? Pete

Well it's not, I removed all eps figures (leaving only equations) and there's still the same problem. I cut down the .tex file, and just can not see any pattern why latex2html fails on this. Can anyone help? I'm using Debian Woody with its stock latex2html 2000-beta1-5. When converting the following example, anything.eps doesn't show at all but is replaced with text "inline-math-here". And "inline-math-here" is not in the text as inline. \documentclass[english]{article} \usepackage{babel} \usepackage{graphics} \makeatletter \makeatother \begin{document} Text here doesnt matter what. \begin{figure} \includegraphics{anything.eps} \end{figure} Line that contains math, inline math next $inline-math-here$ end of inline math. \end{document}

I.e. (if I am right) an eps file in a template needs to be given the absolute path (as a template is intended for "take and move to a new file"). Does it help to open the insert-graphic-dialog and insert the absolute path? Here are the relevant parts: \begin_inset Text \layout Standard \lang english 22 \end_inset \begin_inset Text \layout Standard I removed the \lang english with the editor and re-ran the lyx file. I had to insert at three places a \clearpage which I did not need before the table was inserted. The places were not related to the place were the table had been inserted.
