To my eye the default tables produced by LaTex are too crowded, the
cells having too little breathing space above and below the cell
contents. For an individual table, I can increase this space using the
arraystretch command, but what could I add to the preamble of my LyX
file so that all

I followed them exactly. No joy.
$ cat updates.dat
Thanks ..I went thru the lit and there was a command lyx -dbg graphics.
It showed all that could be done on my system. It is able to give a
preview of .png files. So guess I neede to install converters for other
formats to work. Thanks all for their reponses.

Many thanks to all who responded to my problem.
Finally, lyx is working again with Acrobat Reader 7.0.
One problem was that I had updated ghostscript to AFPL version 8.51. Big
mistake apparently!
Reverting to ESP ghostscript version 7.07 seemed cured my problem.
Another contributer was a disc
