The function "t" change.case$ is responsible. E.g. in plain.bst, you would have to change FUNCTION {format.title} { title empty$ { "" } { title "t" change.case$ } if$ } to FUNCTION {format.title} { title empty$ { "" } { title } } Always save modified bst files under a new name (e.g. myplain.bst). Re: Lyx, BibTex & HTML
I eventually figured out the magical incantation. I export to LaTeX and then run: latex myfile bibtex myfile latex myfile latex myfile htlatex myfile "html" This works in terms of making the bibliography work but now I have a ligatures problem! All my fi's and such are being turned into funky HTML characters. I found the thread http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx- [EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg35556.html but when I tried the listed options the resulting HTML file still had the screwed up characters. Sigh, it seems every time I overcome one problem another pops up. Yaron On Jan 26, 2006, at 12:59 AM, Axel Dessecker wrote: Yaron, Am Mittwoch, 25. Januar 2006 19:45 schrieb Yaron Y. jabref again
Here is another jabref related question. The output of the article style in the References section does not give me Capitals in the titel, except the first one. However, in German references this is not tolerable. I am sure there is a way round in jabref, but I dont know how to do that. Of course I could use {B} etc in the text for it, but I imported much literature of my bib file from another program and would try to avoid doing it by hand. Wolfgang

Re: problem with minipages...
Somethig like this maybe? Latex does not break minipages ususally. So you may have to manually break them into two seperate minpages to get what you want. I also changed a little bit on the presentation part to fit it into 2 pages, you might want to change that back and move some other part around. Ingar cv_2006.lyx Description: application/lyx

Re: how to left align author section?
i think the most simple solution goes something like this. do not enter the authors in author environment! instead place the authors in standard environment after the title. set the character to "larger", disable indentation of the paragraph, and set space-above for the paragraph to -6 em and space-below to big-skip. the result actually looks almost corrrect - only thing missing is the size of footnote marks which was not set to "larger" this way - can that be corrected somehow?. and is this crufty or what? problem with minipages...
Hello all, I will graduate in a few months and it is time that I update my resume. I want to use Lyx of course! I am almost done but I still have two problems. I joined my resume so that you can see clearly what I am asking (hopefully the file will get through). 1/ Under my name, I would like to draw a line across the page. I couldn't find an option to insert such a line. I went around this problem by inserting many hyphens. It does the trick but something tells me that Lyx has another better way to draw a line ;-) 2/ I inserted minipages to end up with the desired format (i.e. I wanted my Education background to be next to the Education mark). However, Lyx doesn't cut the minipages so that my resume is 3-page long while it could only be 2 pages. If you view the DVI, you will see that there is a huge space left between my Appointments box and my Professional Experience box. It would look better if, let's say, the first line of the Professional Experience was on the first page rather than the second. How can I go around that problem? Shall I not use minipages? Re: right-click vs. double-click
Hello, As far as I see developers here don't like double click for some reasons :). How about putting a "Math Panel" item in the hypothetical context menu which is brought up by right click instead of the math panel? Then you can configure the double click for whatever you want or just leave it alone if you really think it's a miserable thing. I agree there is no one size fits all and congigurability is a desirable asset here. In fact, it's the high (but not perfect IMHO: I would prefer possibility of mode- or context-sensitive key bindings) configurability of Keyboard shortcuts that made Lyx so convenient to use in my case. And, by none of what I say I intend to criticize anybody or any platform or anything in LyX, these are just my personal preferences. And, I 'm glad you port the UI to QT 4.1! This sounds great and I can't wait to see the source code! Georg SH: That seems plausible since the error message he reported is caused by an improper bounding box, or an incorrect filename. http://www.physionet.org/physiotools/plt/plt/html/node47.html Margins, cropping, and bounding boxes "Every PostScript file included in a LATEX document must have a defined bounding box. Normally, the bounding box is defined using a structured comment at the beginning of the PostScript file. For example, the PostScript source for the figures shown above begins like this: %!PS-Adobe-3.0 %%BoundingBox: 90 252 540 684 In some cases, you may need to redefine the bounding box, either to adjust the amount of white space surrounding the figure or to crop your figure by selecting a clipping region. You may do so either by editing the PostScript file or in the LATEX source file. Any bounding box definitions in the LATEX source override those in the PostScript file. For details, see section 11.3, "Merging Text and PostScript Graphics", in The LATEX Companion, pp. 317-320. An easy way to determine the correct bounding box is to view your figure using ghostview. Move the mouse pointer to the lower left corner of the figure and note the coordinates (displayed by ghostview immediately above the File button); these are the first two numbers in the BoundingBox line. Now move the mouse pointer to the upper right corner of the figure; the coordinates displayed are the last two numbers in the BoundingBox line. (This plot does not "float" within the text, since it was not put into a figure environment; rather, it appears in the same place in the output as in the LATEX source file.) Note that the "=" is required in the clip= option, although no value follows the "=". Also note that the clip= option is ignored by pdfLATEX (see this figure in the PDF version of this book)." I was going to answer prev. that you should be able to change this in your window manager or desktop system, under "Accessibility" or somesuch category, but then looking at KDE (3.4.0) I discovered that I was wrong -- perhaps it was with Macintosh that one has a system setting for cursor size/appearance (including the insert cursor). I have tested the 3 images in a standalone file, and the images display fine using the PDF (ps to pdf) option. It looks like the 3rd image, specified as eps rather than jpg, is converted to pdf before the tex file is created. The jpg images are all in tmpbuf. If the .eps image file is causing a problem, could you convert it .jpg and reference the .jpg version rather than the .eps in LyX? Maybe the eps conversion is faulty and if it is the file itself then it might fail to convert to another image format, so narrow it down. I did a search for TeXshop and error messages. On Intel machines, the teTeX binary directory should then be /usr/local/teTeX/bin/i386-apple-darwin-current. TeXShop now has code to make this change automatically. When the program first starts, it calls "uname -p" to determine the current processor. If the result is "i386", then TeXShop permanently changes the above preference to /usr/local/teTeX/bin/i386-apple-darwin-current. However this change is not made if the user has manually changed the default /usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current to some other location. Thus if a user has the Fink teTeX distribution or some other distribution and has set the teTeX binary directory preference to point to it, the preference will not be changed." --- http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop/texshop.html --- http://www.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop/installing.html - When did you last update your system? Hello Nusret, If we you are willing to help with the development of LyX, there are plenty to do. I suggest that you read some of the lyx-devel archive (try the excellent gname news interface: gmane.editors.lyx.devel). I too would like to have context menu inside lyx but this feature would need some GUI programming. I have started a port to Qt4.1 that will eventually be included in the CVS repository once LyX-1.4.0 is released. With your help, "context menu" may become a reality with LyX-1.5 ;-) As for right-click and double-click behaviors, I would personally like the following: - righ-click: context-menu - ctrl + left-click: select word - shift + left-click: select sentence. - alt + left-click: select paragraph - double-click: I don't care But one size doesn't fit all so all this should be made configurable. I have tested the 3 images in a standalone file, and the images display fine using the PDF (ps to pdf) option. It looks like the 3rd image, specified as eps rather than jpg, is converted to pdf before the tex file is created. The jpg images are all in tmpbuf. Opening the a1.tex file found in /tmp/lyx... using Texshop gives the same results: image does not load. Viewing the a1.lyx file as LaTeX directly: opens Texshop, same result (no images) Viewing the testimg.lyx file (where all I have is 3 images): opens Texshop, works fine. Not being able to view images in the other two options (PDF dvipdfm and PDF pdflatex is apparently a known bug: see bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi? id=2127> and many thanks to Bennett Helm for pointing that out to me. From the a1.tex file in /tmp/... = \includegraphics[% bb=1bp 1bp 0bp 0bp, scale=0.5]{/tmp/lyx_tmpdir182370kPLxI/ lyx_tmpbuf0/1_Users_donovan_courses_current_320_assign_a1-3a.jpg} ... \includegraphics[% bb=1bp 1bp 836bp 321bp, scale=0.5]{/tmp/lyx_tmpdir182370kPLxI/ lyx_tmpbuf0/2_Users_donovan_courses_current_320_assign_a1-3b.jpg} ... \includegraphics[% bb=1bp 1bp 994bp 367bp, scale=0.5]{/tmp/lyx_tmpdir182370kPLxI/ lyx_tmpbuf0/0_Users_donovan_courses_current_320_assign_a1-3c.pdf} \end{document} === from the testimg.tex file in /tmp/lyx... (the file that works): == \includegraphics[% bb=1bp 1bp 1034bp 273bp, scale=0.5]{/tmp/lyx_tmpdir182370kPLxI/ lyx_tmpbuf1/1_Users_donovan_courses_current_320_assign_a1-3a.jpg} \includegraphics[% bb=1bp 1bp 836bp 321bp, scale=0.5]{/tmp/lyx_tmpdir182370kPLxI/ lyx_tmpbuf1/2_Users_donovan_courses_current_320_assign_a1-3b.jpg} \includegraphics[% bb=1bp 1bp 994bp 367bp, scale=0.5]{/tmp/lyx_tmpdir182370kPLxI/ lyx_tmpbuf1/0_Users_donovan_courses_current_320_assign_a1-3c.pdf} \end{document}

We don't know, but with your help we might find out. Maybe this is bug 2127 (but I doubt it, see below): http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2127. > What should either LyX or myself should be doing to correct the problem? First we need to find out whether the error is on the LyX side or TeX side. Export the file to LaTeX, and run it through pdflatex manually. Does that work? If not, what are the error messages? > == cut << _EOF_ > This is pdfeTeX, Version 3.141592-1.30.4-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.5) > (format=pdflatex 2006.1.8) 26 JAN 2006 00:09 This is different to bug 2127: There LyX tries to run TeX in dvi mode, here it does the right thing. > ! This should not happen: pdflatex can use .jpg files natively. Did you check whether the file in the temp dir does actually exist and is readable? Can you run a simple .tex file that includes this very image through pdflatex? Georg

I also looked at the options, Could you be a little more specific please? Do the references show up in the *.dvi version of your text? I have used the oolatex function from time to time and I know TeX4ht is capable of dealing with references. Axel

It usually does this automatically for EPS files by reading bounding box info. However... it may be unable to extract this information from binary bitmap images such as .jpeg files. In my experience (1.3.5) LyX converts jpegs to an EPS automagically. And above it does say "type eps"... You could, as a workaround, try doing this yourself (save the jpeg as an eps). I would also first try one of the LyX help docs (with images) to see if have the same problem. -Kevin -- Kevin Pfeiffer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Tiros-Translations

Can someone please tell me at least WHAT is wrong, in terms of why LyX isn't able to create LaTeX code that works in this case? What is LyX is doing (or not doing) that creates this LaTeX error? What should either LyX or myself should be doing to correct the problem? I have googled, read the archives, searched, scoured, and generally beat my head on this for many hours now, and I'm no closer to a clue. Please, can someone help? Do I have the wrong version of teTeX? Did I load the wrong tools? This type of thing used to work without any problems with 1.3.4, 1.3,5 and 1.3.6 prior to a system error I had last week. Now, it's not working at all. What are the people using MacOSX generally using as the teTeX install? I followed the instructions for Texshop, and used the 2006 MacTex.dmg to install the necessary teTeX files. Should I be using something else? I vaguely recall doing something different the first time I installed teTeX, but do you think I can find my old notes? Not a chance! All I'm doing is inserting a graphic into a file. That is the only change between the two files.
