MikTex does not load
LyX 1.56.4.1 fails to downlaod the MikTex package. Is there any work around short of installing MikTex manually first?

Load babel with the greek and the polutoniko option For input, if all you need (as I did once) are short fragments, then you can just use ERT in the body of the LyX document. For instance, you can type \textgreek{p'asqein} to get the appropriate accents. Or you can have a \selectlanguage{greek} at the beginning of a longer passage and restore to english (or Italian) with \selectlanguage{english} when you are done. This method is not really practical if you have passages longer than a line or two. Felice spiego alla Lista e poi sono da te a fine mail: Ok, his question can be resumed in: - Lyx doesn't support Greek language. Any other program I tried can, using extra greek fonts, that I have, allow me to insert in my book Greek sentences. In the latest email Felice sent, he's just saying that he needs to insert in his book some prays in ancient Greek. - So, basically, I'm assuming he's having troubles writing in ancient Greek and since I never tried to do this (I don't need to), I googled a bit (don't be evil with Felice, looks like he cannot read or write Eng, therefore, it's pretty impossible to use Google that way...) and found out these interesting entries: http://x46.deja.com/getdoc.xp?AN=600471579&CONTEXT=956797275.1420820487&hitnum=0 http://x46.deja.com/getdoc.xp?AN=523098925&CONTEXT=956797275.1420820487&hitnum=5 http://x46.deja.com/getdoc.xp?AN=493287688&CONTEXT=956797275.1420820487&hitnum=6 Also, some clues are pointing to this page: http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/fonts/greek/yannis/ What I didn't find is a step-by-step page to translate for him, explaining exactly what he has to do to be ready-set-go. Can anyone suggest him some tutorial or just tell him what he needs to do? I'll do the translation part, don't worry. PDF with images read on Windows.
Hello. This is perhaps not exactly a LyX-specific issue, but might concern LyX users. I've been generating letters with an image in the background. The LyX preamble is: \usepackage[all]{xy} \usepackage{eso-pic} \newcommand\BackgroundPic{ \put(-7,0){ \parbox[b][\paperheight]{\paperwidth}{% \includegraphics[width=\paperwidth,height=\paperheight] {background.png}% } } } \usepackage{xspace} \usepackage{pifont} \usepackage{xcolor} \hypersetup{colorlinks=true,urlcolor={brown!100!orange!75!black!100}} and I'm using the command \AddToShipoutPicture*{\BackgroundPic} as Evil Red Text at the beginning of my document. When generating the .pdf with pdflatex, I can read it fine on my Debian box with evinve, but people cannot read the .pdf on Windows, presumably with Adobe Acrobat Reader. They report "a black page". My gues is therefore a RGB / CMYK coloring issue, but I've been unable to pinpoint it precisely. Has anyone experienced similar issues before? -- Guillaume Yziquel http://yziquel.homelinux.org/

This is the correct behaviour: When a LaTeX-error occurs, LyX stops because LaTeX stops. That this raises a LaTeX error instead of a LaTeX warning is another issue of the luximono fonts. Fair enough. I did submit a report to Bigelow and Holmes about luxi-mono. I suppose another fix would be a package that redefines \textuparrow{} (etc) to switch font if running under the ul9 font. I'll try and work out how to do that. Sam

Anyway, you say ps2pdf should solve the problem? I use precisely ps2pdf to generate the PDF. Anyway, this is a good excuse to take advantage of the portability of LyX... let's create the PDF under Linux! :-) Unfortunately, I suppose it would be simpler to deliver her a printed copy any time it's needed rather trying to ask her to install anything :-) The problem is that I have loads of images, I would prefer not to send all those things. Thanks for your help! Luca
