Ah, ok, thanks, I missed that "M" to "A" change mentioned in mac.bind somehow. I was defining "M-m" in the bind file, and mistaking that to mean "Option-m", but once I defined "A-m" it worked as expected by using "Option-m," and it overrode the system's special character behavior. Thanks a millio

I should also mention that this behavior can't be overriden by adding Meta shortcuts to my .bind file, so even the solution originally proposed (adding each Meta- shortcut to the bind file) won't work. That is, if I assign a shortcut to "M-m" and then try to use Option-m from LyX, it still inserts

Hi Bart - Thanks for your suggestion, but (no surprise here) this is yet another of Apple's regrettable design decision that users have no ability to easily change. The system preferences have no controls for this behavior. There is probably some obscure plist file somewhere that controls this beh
