Stephen,

  Aha! That's too simple. :-)

I've not before noticed that 'here definitely' setting in all the years
I've used LyX (about 12 now).

Thanks very much,

Put the floats where you want them to appear relative to the text, then right

Excess Space With Tables and Figures at Chapter's End

2013-01-03 Thread Rich Shepard

I've a short paragraph that concludes a chapter and this paragraph
includes two table floats and two figure floats. TeX spreads these out over
4 pages with too much white space. The first page has the paragraph, a lot
of space, then one table; the second page has two figures (including one
from an earlier paragraph), and so on.

Should I copy these out of the floats and place them manually? I've not
seen this before so I don't know all my options.

Hi Mark,

the problem with the template directory access is the dynamic nature of the
location.
The system templates are located inside the application bundle and one may have
more then one bundle on a computer.
So it would be correct to have a button in the "Open from template" dialog to
navigate to the location inside the bundle.

The workaround is as follows:
1. Use the Finder to go to Applications
2. Locate the LyX program bundle (LyX.app)
3. Click on it with right mouse button (Open the package content)
4. Navigate into Contents and then into Resources
5. Drag the templates folder to the left sidebar between two items of your
choice

Now you have an item named templates there. This item is also a member of the
"Open from template" dialog.
Unfortunately I couldn't find any application program interface to make that
link automatically from the LyX application.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,
Stephan

Hi Richard:

Sorry for the big delay: I was abroad and out of the Internet.

It works! Well LatexParam seemed to have no effect but I bet it is just a
matter of some missing bit. Perhaps it should be LatexParams instead?

I read the whole thread and http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/8440 looks
interesting.

After deciding to use LyX as the tool for writing manual for software
application which will be kept under DVCS (not git, but most probably
Fossil), I just wonder what are your experiences with different diff
tools?

In one blog post, I saw that Emacs' ediff was much better thant e.g
KDiff, Vim's diff...
but considering that so far I only keep my own docs under DVCS, I'm
interested what one can expect when diff-ing LyX documents in order to
try to provide merge of changes?

I also wonder whether XML-based format would be better than the present
one in such scenario?

Sincerely,
Gour

this, but LyX seems to use other criteria... anyone know what those criteria

It is actually lilypond-book making those decisions, not LyX, and the
decision is based generating a hash from the lilypond code fragments.
That lilypond-book does not recognize when you modify an included file
is a bug that should be reported to the LilyPond project.

Or, better yet, a way to just tell LyX to re-run Lilypond for all inset files?

Close and reopen the LyX file. LyX will now work from a fresh temporary
directory for compilation, and lilypond-book will need to recompile
every lilypond code fragment.
