This has probably already been answered, but if not: you need to use BibTeX and select an author-date style. Check out section 6.5 (Bibliography) of the User Guide, and http://wiki.lyx.org/BibTeX/BibTeX (hmm, I thought there was a page with step by step instructions but can't see to find it).

Actually I've now noticed that many cross references appear as 'BROKEN' when they are not. Rolled back to 2.0.4.

many options in Preferences are 'enabled' but do not appear in the list. I read in the latex2rtf manual that the tmp aux files need to exist, so I tried running View -> PDF (XeTeX) but no joy. Could the problem be that I'm using XeTeX rather than default LaTeX? Thanks! ~:Justin Wood:~ PhD c
