Hi - just out of interest - is there a way to enable page numbers on Title pages? Thanks, Brian Paul A. Rubin [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Søren O'Neill wrote: The title says it all ... Change \rhead to \lhead or \chead to put it in the left corner or center respectively. You can also embellish it (for instance, \rhead{-\thepage-} to add a dash on either side). Python interface to relyx?
Hi, still trying to get to the bottom of relyx in windows. I found an old archive message from Angus explaing that the conversion error that occurs after the perl relyx script executes is due to python somehow. Can someone point me to where python completes the 2nd half of the conversion? I do have python installed, so I reckon it must be directory pointers. All I really want is the location and name of the python script. Thanks Brian - Yahoo! Messenger NEW - crystal clear PC to PC calling worldwide with voicemail

relyx in windows?
Hi folks, what is the trick to make relyx work in windows? I've found that I need to put the .tex file in the bin directory where relyx.bat is so that it can find it, but after that, the system complains that the conversion has failed. Thanks, Brian Williams PS I tried tex2lyx, but got lots of complaints about running an earlier version of lyx, and loads of error boxes. - How much free photo storage do you get? Re: relyx in windows?
Thanks, but I can't upgrade to 1.3.6 for some weeks. Tex2Lyx seems to expect 1.3.6 files, so maybe that's why I got errors. This question is really about whether anyone has succeeded in making relyx work under windows. I found that if I created a null lyx file, I could take the relyx output and edit the mid section into the lyx file and that would work, but it is a real hassle. Therefore the problem has got to be something to do with the preamble, but I'm not well versed enough to figure it out. Thanks anyway, Brian Stephen P. Thanks, Brian Williams PS I tried tex2lyx, but got lots of complaints about running an earlier version of lyx, and loads of error boxes. I don't think relyx works. Actually tex2lyx works pretty good for most Windows XP users. LyX 1.3.6_1 comes with Extended Features as a document which I can open. But I saw an update notification of extended features so I downloaded it and it would not open. I am not sure but maybe the update was created with LyX 1.4 and 1.3.6_1 doesn't read it. There is a slight problem reported by some people with directories which contain spaces. So I have tex2lyx.exe and tex2lyx.bat harbored in C:\lyx\lyx\bin and it works good, and there are few complaints about it so it is likely you have overlooked some detail. Did you follow this tip? http://wiki.lyx.org/LaTeX/Tex2LyxInvokedFromLyx This can be done another way, but this well-tested method works. Regards, Stephen - How much free photo storage do you get? 2nd argument in math mode
Hi folks, hope this question isn't too newbie! I wanted to insert this command \rule{0pt}{4.5ex} in the element of an array. I didn't want to use arraystretch because one of the elements contained a 2x2 matrix, and I assume that would be stretched too. How do I get the 2nd argument? In the end, I cheated and edited the .lyx file, and lyx showed it in red just fine. It would be nice if you could insert a }{ inside the argument, but Lyx won't allow that either. I don't think you can go into ERT in math mode can you? Thanks! Brian - Yahoo! Messenger NEW - crystal clear PC to PCcalling worldwide with voicemail

Re: LyXWin not working on XP
You have User Lyx directory: 'C:/Documents and Settings/db/.lyx/' Maybe the problem is that you have your user directory set to a directory with spaces in the pathname? It may not be in this case, but I'm sure it will give you trouble later. http://wiki.lyx.org/pmwiki.php/LyX/WindowsSetup says: Install the programs above into folders that contain no spaces in the name. Eg. C:\LyX If it could deal with spaces in the user directory, surely it wouldn't need that restriction? The way I get around this is to map a local network drive (X:) to the Documents and Settings directory so as to avoid having to create yet another top level directory. Brian David Boutillier [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I am having difficulty getting LyXWin working properly. 1) I have followed the detailed notes for installing LyXWin on XP from the LyX/WindowsSetup page of the LyX wiki-wiki. 2) I have opened LyX from a command window with the command lyx -dbg 3.
Numbered, bracketed, Systems of Equations - How??
Hi folks, looks like this isn't such a newbie question after all. Maybe I should ask it more carefully. I want to use LyX to produce systems of equations that look like this (output exported from LyX): $\left\{ \begin{array}{r} (3-\lambda)C + 2D = 0\\ C + (4-\lambda)D = 0\end{array}\right.$ but with each line numbered, like eqnarray Reasons are that I want the operators to line up correctly, and it will match the course textbooks that I am using with an Open University Maths course that I'm doing (they were published using TeX). I've tried all kinds of combinations of brackets and environments with no luck. By the way, the user guide says this in section 5.2: If you decide after the fact to place parentheses (or other math structure, like a square root, or other decoration) around some math structure, you can do that by highlighting (selecting) the structure that is to go inside the parentheses...Then, choose the appropriate brackets for left and right, and click on Apply. The parentheses will be drawn around the selected structure. This does not appear to be true for equation environments or arrays for that matter. Has this been done in LyX yet? Newbie question
Hi, Hope this isn't too simple I'd like to define a quick way in Lyx of entering this construct for entering a system of equations: $\left\{ \begin{array}{r} \\\end{array}\right.$ Currently I achieve this by using the Math panel to insert an unmatched left squiggly brace, then a 2 x 5 matrix right justified by column, and this takes a boring number of keystrokes. I tried defining a macro, but of course I can't edit it. Is there any way of creating a macro that puts objects on the screen that you can edit? Thanks! how to make empheq work?
Hi, I'm a newbie with Lyx. I've been trying to get the empheq package to work but can't. I put \usepackage{empheq} in the preamble, and created an ERT box containing this test code.. \begin{empheq} \begin{align} E=mc^2 \\ Y= \sum_{n=1}^\infty \frac{1}{n^2} \end{align} \end{empheq} It generated a host of errors starting with this: LaTeX Error: \begin{empheq} on input line 25 ended by \end{align}. \end{align} Your command was ignored. Type I command return to replace it with another command, or return to continue without it. Any ideas? Many thanks Brian Williams Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com

Thanks Georg, but still no luck. I've renamed the subject, because it may just be a problem with LyX. I went the document The empheq package* by Morten Høgholm 2004/10/10 and cut and paste this sample into an ERT box \begin{empheq}{align*} a=b \tag{*}\\ E=mc^2 + \int_a^a x\, dx \end{empheq} and Lyx gives me this error: Undefined control sequence. \end{empheq} The control sequence at the end of the top line of your error message was never \def'ed. If you have misspelled it (e.g., `\hobx'), type `I' and the correct spelling (e.g., `I\hbox'). Otherwise just continue, and I'll forget about whatever was undefined. I don't get it! Any further help gratefully received Thanks, Brian Williams --- Re: how to make empheq work? Many thanks Georg! I didn't know about that limitation with the ERT box (I'm too new). I couldn't find it in the user documentation... curious! Can you recommend anything more complete? Thanks again, Brian Georg Baum [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Brian Williams wrote: I went the document The empheq package* by Morten Høgholm 2004/10/10 and cut and paste this sample into an ERT box \begin{empheq}{align*} a=b \tag{*}\\ E=mc^2 + \int_a^a x\, dx \end{empheq} and Lyx gives me this error: Undefined control sequence. \end{empheq} This is a limitation of the ERT box in LyX 1.3.x. Don't use normal newlines in ERT, but Ctrl-Enter. The latter will produce one newline in the .tex output, normal newlines will produce a paragraph break (= 2 newlines). The attached file works for me. Georg Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com
RE: how to make empheq work (with LyX)? - still struggling
Of course, the only reason why I need this is because I don't know how to make lyx align a system of equations (4 cols) with the operators and equals signs lined up and a big brace to the left. All the align environments that I've found in Lyx are limited to 2 or 3. Am I missing something? Thanks, Brian Brian Williams [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Many thanks Georg!
