defining custom font size and indentation
Hi,
I'm having two interconnected problem. My editor wants me to print the text in
fontsize 12 (no problem), but the last chapter with the lists of sources in
fontsize 10 and this indentation:
0.7 cm XXX
XXX
1st problem: font size
=
If I use \begin{small}, I will only get font size 11. With {tiny} I will
get 6. How can I get to size 10?
I tried to define it with the \font comand (see below) but it didn't work. I
keep getting error messages.

at beginning of bibliography:
\romanten [this lets lyx complain]
I also need font size 10 in my headline, where I have the same problem as
above with font size 11 or 6:

I've contiuend trying and NOW IT WORKS! Not in the first line, though, where I
put my \begin{footnotesize}. But that's not a problem in my case
I think I had forgotten to activate it as a document standard.

Now something strange has happened to my subsection headlines in the sources
lists: they are too close to the paragraph before and the font size is too
small, but just the ones after the first hanging paragraph!
Please find attached 2 sample pages. On page 489 the vertical distances and
fontsizes are ok. On page 494 you can see that the headline of subchapter 9.2
is totally wrongly formatted but the following subsubchapter* headline is ok.
Other subsubchapter* headlines on the following pages (not in the sample)
show the same problem, but only in vertical spacing.
Have you got a clue what needs to be changed?

I am not using KOMA, so this does not work:

How do I get rid of the superscript?
I have configured the footnotes with footmisc so far:
\usepackage[hang]{footmisc}
\setlength{\footnotemargin}{0.7cm}

Hi, is there a way to change indentation for quotes and quotations in the preamble of a document? I'd need left indentation 0.7cm, right indentation 0cm. sorry for my long silence - I didn't resolve the issues completely, but I got
over an important hurdle.
I exported my .lyx-file to a .tex-file. This was the only way, I could get in
the \setlength\parindent{0.7cm} option. It was quite hard for me because
the German umlaut didn't get translated properly. I found out that I had to
change the encoding to utf8 to make it work.
I also added:
\usepackage{fancyhdr}
\pagestyle{fancy}
The next point I need to solve is the header issue:
* page number: font size 12
* left pages: chapter title (right-aligned) in small capitals and font size 10
* right pages: subchapter title (left-aligned) in small capitals and font size
10
header not on first page of chapter
At present I get both chapter and subchapter titles in the header so that they
overwrite each other and are unreadable. The page number is in the footer and
should go up to the header.
A second point is the font size (12 and solved ;-) but the line distance
should be 14 points. How do I get that?

My publisher (Franz Steiner Verlag, Stuttgart, Germany) has very percise ideas about the layout of the text and I am unable to adjust to his wishes with LYX. I could not find a suitable template on the Internet. I don't know how to change parts of the layout beyond the text options. That is why I need help in changing the page layout. I use the template book (more font sizes). Things which need to be adapted are: * font in the header, which has to be small capitals instead of capitals and a different font size * header (left pages): the word chapter is printed in all chapters in German (Kapitel which is correct), but in chapter 9 there is chapter in the header (a bug?) * space of indentation at the beginning of paragraphs * headlines of chapters without the word chapter in the headline and different font size If anybody feels able to help, please contact me and I will send you parts of my text and the exact figures so that the changes can be applied to it. If it does not work out well this way, I will have no other choice than to transfer the whole text to M$-word and reformat it there. language has gotten changed.

In your preamble, put:
\setlength\parindent{2cm}
or whatever it is you need. LaTeX will accept lots of different units,

An alternative might be to switch to use the book (koma-script) class.

about the layout of the text and I am unable to adjust to his wishes with
LYX.
I could not find a suitable template on the Internet.
I don't know how to change parts of the layout beyond the text options.
That is why I need help in changing the page layout. I use the template "book
(more font sizes)".
Things which need to be adapted are:
* font in the header, which has to be small capitals instead of capitals
and a different font size
* header (left pages): the word chapter is printed in all chapters in German
("Kapitel" which is correct), but in chapter 9 there is "chapter" in the
header (a bug?)
* space of indentation at the beginning of paragraphs
* headlines of chapters without the word "chapter" in the headline and
different font size
If anybody feels able to help, please contact me and I will send you parts of
my text and the exact figures so that the changes can be applied to it.
If it does not work out well this way, I will have no other choice than to
transfer the whole text to M$-word and reformat it there.
I'm not an IT specialist, just a poor historian using LYX on Linux.
Please help me to prevent that nightmare!

hyphenation - German Umlaute in PDF output file
Hi, I am having one small but annoying problem with LYX. I cannot get my PDF output files formated the right way. If the last word in a line includes an Umlaut (äöü), hyphenation will not be done for this word resulting in a tail in the lines in question. I am using LYX 1.5.1 on a Gentoo system and have these packages installed for spell checking: aspell-0.60.5 aspell-de-0.60_pre20030222 What do I have to tell LYX to separate words including äöü at the right letter?
