lyx could not get font
Hi, I am using Debian with lyx 1.3.6 xforms. When I open a document with math symbols, I get a serie of Could not get font ..., using fixed. And as a matter of fact, the math symbols are not displayed properly. This makes the edition of such document a real pain. I believe this is not really a lyx problem but it rather comes from my distribution and fonts in tetex-extra that are not fetched. However, I could not find any solution and lyx is the only application that has this bug (xfontsel also can't display the mentioned fonts). This is the reason why I ask here for any clue that could help me solve this issue. Note that in the dvi document, math symbols are properly displayed. Thanks in advance for any help, Nicolas. double dots for french
Hi, In lyx1.2 (and before), when using either french or french-Gutenberg, Lyx automatically adds a blank space before double dots :. 1. IMHO, it is not necessary since most french users are used to typing this blank space before the double dot, especially when no space appear in the lyx window. By comparison, automatic spaces before and after the french quotes » and « are OK since they appear in the window (no temptation of doing it twice). A solution (IMHO) would be to show this space on the window (just like was done for quotes). I understand it might be very complicated to program this feature... 2. This automatic spacing can make funny things. For instance: xml :my-tagblabla/xml :my-tag http ://www.myself.org/ - Is there a way to tell lyx, temporaryly, NOT to put empty spaces. The solution I used is to enter math-mode before typing :, but it doesn't look as a clean solution to me. 3. The process is also applied in the bibliography and, for journals, it is really annoying for the pages numbering. It makes: M. Myname. My nice title. The Journal's Name, volume :pages-numbers, year. e.g.N. Sabouret. LyX is cool. Computer Science, 24: 3-5, 2002 What can I do ? insert inline figure centered
Hi, Here is my (1st) question of the day (I think I should subscribe to the mailing list) : In lyx 1.2, when one wanted to insert inline figures (i.e. not floating figures), they were put in a new paragraph, centered, with 0.3cm above and below. This was OK for me. Now, when I insert a figure, lyx put it where the cursor is. This means that to have a centered figure, I need to modify the paragraph layout myself, which is anoying. Is there still an insert-centered-with-spacing figure command ? Thanks, Nico. -- Nicolas SABOURET LIMSI-CNRS, BP133, 91403 Orsay, France http://www.limsi.fr/Individu/nico

Nevertheless, it would be nice to find solutions to make this operation easy enough. Yep. Here is just a proposition : a make-new-paragraph out of selection + add spacing + center command. With this command, the user would only have to select the figure and click... « et voilà » ! Anyway, do what you can... French translation for algorithms
Hi, I just switched to lyx1.2.0 and I encounter a small problem with the algorithm environment. In my french documents, I want to see Algorithme 1 and not Algorithm 1. I used to hack this with TeX in lyx1.1.6 by putting : \renewcommand{\ALG@name}{Algorithme} However, I can see that things have changed now. Please, tell me what is the best solution : 1. Add \floatname{algorithm}{Algorithme} in the preambule to override the \floatname{algorithm}{Algorithm} of LyX 2. Change an option in the new very cool GUI. More than 12pt ?
Hi ! This is more or less a latex question but I suppose I can find an answer here. I prepare some exams or exercices for 11 to 16y old students using Lyx and the article class. However, 12pt is still too small for them. The solution I use is to select the whole document text and to increase the size via the character window. This solution has one major problem : the section numbers stay in 12pt, regular size (which is very small compared to the title, in some case). Here are my two questions : 1. Is there a way to increase also the size of these numbers (I thought about \Large{ at the begining of the document, and } at the end, in latex mode, but I didn't try since it seemed hugly to me). 2. Is there any other class I could use ? Thanks in advance, -- Nicolas SABOURET LIMSI-CNRS, BP133, 91403 Orsay, France http://www.limsi.fr/Individu/nico

Adding a class
Hello ! I'm really sorry to ask a question about this, since I saw many messages in the archive, but I couldn't find the answer to my problem. I have a foo.cls file that I must use for a paper submission. I put it in /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/misc directory and I ran texhash. It works fine (I can type a latex document with \documentclass{foo}) I copied /usr/local/share/lyx/layouts/article.layout to ~/.lyx/layouts/foo.layout, as told in the "customization" doc. I changed the first two lines into : #% Do not delete the line below; configure depends on this # \DeclareLaTeXClass{FOOsubmission} I select "edit/reconfigure" (lyx 1.6fix1) and I restart lyx. No "FOOsubmission" class in "layout/document". I saw that the /usr/local/share/lyx/configure file is 644. Is it ok ? What can I do ? Thanks, Nicolas.

Lyx 1.1.6 greek
In Lyx 1.1.6, when I add a greek letter using a shortkey in text mode (ex: "bla1 bla2 bla3 M-g a bla4 bla5"), the cursor is put BEFORE the greek letter after I inster it. This thus produces (in my example) : bla1 bla2 bla3 bla4 bla5 \alpha It really bothers me since I used to type my greek letters without thinking about it, which is not the case anymore (I have to press 3 times the "-" key after each greek letter !) Can I correct this ? However, I had reported some bugs in Lyx= 1.1.4 and they all diseappeared in 1.1.6. You really did a great job ! Thanks to the whole team for providing this really cool latex-frontend. Nicolas.
lyx1.1.6 too big !
Hi ! I use lyx both at work (recent computer) and at home (old one). I tried to compile lyx 1.1.6 at home but I couldn't build "src/lyx" because it was too big (compiling lyx took all the 170Mo I had left on my computer). I had to remove lots of thinks (thank's dpkg for doing things so neatly). Finally, I "installed-strip" and it works all right. However, I don't want to do this again for 1.1.6fix1 (remove the packages, compile, reinstall), and I'm sure you understand why. Is there any option I could give "./configure" or "make" to build a smaller file at home ? Thanks in advance, Nicolas. PS : The strip version takes only 8Mo, vs 40Mo for the regular one. What makes this difference ? Could you tell me more ?

Re: Upgrade lyx1.0.4 - lyx1.1.5fix2 : ERRATUM
ERRATUM about 1.1.4 beeing OK : All errors that appeared in 1.1.5fix2 and caused the compilation to abort APPEAR ALSO WITH 1.1.4. I had not notice them since with 1.1.4, as Jean-Marc said, the errors were ignored and a document was produced (sometimes troncated). I agree with J.M. that it is better to stop the compilation when there are errors ... HOWEVER, all these LaTeX errors DO NOT APPEAR in the log file with LyX 1.0.4 ! Here is what I get : - tex capacity exceeded in a file with nothing special in it - missing number, treated as zero when using " (M-i ') - misplaced alignement tab caracter in a foiltex file Nicolas. Jean-Marc Lasgouttes wrote: "Nicolas" == Nicolas SABOURET [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Nicolas The problem is that some of my old lyx files that used to Nicolas compile perfectly in 1.0.4 produced wierd "Latex errors", Nicolas many of them in paragraphs that had nothing special ! So your file probably have real errors. Nicolas I finally took 1.1.4 and everything seems to work fine. (just Nicolas to say : upgrade 1.0.4-1.1.4 seems OK) Yes, the change occured in 1.1.4fix2, I believe. Nicolas Moreover, the language option "francais" disappeared... why ? Nicolas I use "français" as language (especially for ispell). Use "french" or "french (gutemberg)". The "francais" option of babel is deprecated. Concerning ispell, the best for now is to add a link like ln -s francais.aff french.aff ln -s francais.hash french.hash Later versions will know better how to handle ispell dictionaries. JMarc

proof in Lyx
How can I make inferences like : B C --- (y) A D -- (x) E There exists a "proof.sty" package with a "\infer{}{}" command, but if A,B,C,D,E are big math formulaes, I can't use "\infer{}{}" in math mode : it doesn't hold on a single lyx line (screen isn't wide enough :)). Is there a solution ? Can I temporarily redefine \frac by \infer ? How can I do this ? Nicolas.
