No, I don't has python installed before the first and the second tries to install Lyx... anyway - this problem is solved when I install not for all user, but using the "JUST FOR ME" option on Miktex and Lyx installer! Hey Paul, how do you do? You can email me as often as you like, ok? Well, I was late because I was trying many ways to install Lyx as ever I am doing nowdays... :-) Thanks in advance, again, Paul! Well, I erased all things in the user directory that Lyx created, and then run the command line you gave me, and it outputs the following message on DOS prompt: C:\Python20>python.exe c:\LyX14\Resources\configure.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "c:\LyX14\Resources\configure.py", line 49, in ? def writeToFile(filename, lines, append = False): NameError: There is no variable named 'False' C:\Python20> And then, I checked back, if by this way, was created the Lyx user directory again, but it does not created it. Open a DOS window and cd to the directory under which you want LyX to create your "user" directory. On XP this is typically C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data. That file has to do with python. > Do you have a working python installation? As for the second, it has > been discussed on the list several times. Have a look at the archives. The errors are likely to be related: if Python is broken, the installation script is probably doomed, hence the null textclass.lst file. As Richard said, w9xpopen.exe is a Python file. (Apparently Jasc uses a file of the same name in Paint Shop Pro, but the bit about "shell or platform" coupled with the fact that LyX uses Python and not PSP strongly suggests Python here.) Googling around indicates that Python uses w9xpopen.exe on Win 95/98 systems. You indicated you are using XP SP2, so you don't need that file. (I have both a full installation of Python 2.3 and the 'thin' installation that LyX does on its own, and neither has that file.) Any chance you upgraded this machine from 9x to XP? If you have Python installed someplace, you might try uninstalling it (or at least moving it off the Windows command path momentarily) and see if that cures the bug. It might also be a good idea to uninstall any LyX installations, and delete the user data folder(s) they created. Then reinstall LyX, cross fingers and hope for the best. If you're not sure about whether there is a "ghost" installation of Python floating around, you could try searching the entire hard drive for python*.exe. That should (eventually) point to any and all Python installations. /Paul __ Fale com seus amigos de graça com o novo Yahoo! Messenger http://br.messenger.yahoo.com/

Please I want a simple thing: - Type asdkhjdfkh in a new Lyx file and put this line line as 'title'; - Change both 'Layout->Document->Language' and 'Edit->Preferences->Language' to portuguese (or whatever tongue you want); - Export it to pdf or view it as dvi or something like that; Then, what do you see? 'October, 16 2005' isn't it? Well, I want to be written there '16 de outubro de 2005'. Please, do that -- help me! I can't send all my job with these parts in english... it is urgent :((( -- Abraços! Re: More about foreign languages - No!
The 'Layout->Document->Language' has no effect to change the automatic names at my Lyx. Maybe the problem is at my application. I'm using Windows Lyx. But I have it installed in Linux platform also, and I'll try to do that way on it now. Please wait a moment, I'll try and not be long at the callback :) -- Abraços! Douglas ___ Promoção Yahoo! Re: More about foreign languages - No!
Oh my! Maybe this is the problem: I don't have at my Lyx a manu called 'Edit->Text Style'! Which Lyx version is yours? --- What you in fact need to do is ensure that any of the items that are in the wrong language. Select everything that needs to be in Portueguese and go to Edit Text Style. Choose the correct language from the Language drop box. --- Abraços! Douglas ___ Promoção Yahoo! More about foreign languages
Hey there! I'd like to know how can I substitute the english words that Lyx automatically put on my dvi or pdf files (like "Contents", "October 16, 2005" and so forth...) by another words at the same meaning but in different tongues, once I write the most docs on portuguese or spanish -- and it sounds weird to put these english words on that sort of foreign articles. -- Abraços! Re: CMR font
I recommend the latin modern fonts. They are based on computern modern and under the GPL. You find them in OpenType format here: ftp://ftp.dante.de/tex-archive/fonts/ps-type1/lm/fonts/opentype/public/lm/ the equivalent for CMR is lmroman. regards Uwe - GREAT! Guess? Aspell working!
Hey people! Thanks a lot for help me! Well, now I know why was not working before: It is necessary to download the 'lean' Aspell -- not the spanish or the portuguese version. After installing that one, you can download the Aspell for your tongues, and to install over it! What a mess! :) -- Peace! Douglas ___ Promoção Yahoo! "Oh-oh --- Aspell is not working!"
Oh --- I see! Aspell is not working! Now I know! There is no 'aspell.com' or 'aspel.exe' or some aspell executable, and I can't use the command line aspell (DOS prompt), neither inside the exact path (c:\aspell), because the single executable there is the 'aspell-uninstall'! I tried to install it many times, what seems to be the matter? -- Abraços! Douglas ___ Promoção Yahoo! Acesso Grátis: a cada hora navegada você acumula cupons e concorre a mais de 500 prêmios! CMR font
Do you know any version of CMR font or similar to be used at Corel Draw, Photoshop, etc. (with 'regular', 'bold', 'italic', 'bold italic' bundle)? The original one can't be used, because at this applications the italic, bold, and accent doesn't work on. I just like this font and I want to use it on more applications. It can be OpenType, TrueType or Type1. -- Abraços! Douglas ___ Promoção Yahoo! Acesso Grátis: a cada hora navegada você acumula cupons e concorre a mais de 500 prêmios! Both Linux and Windows
I've Lyx installed in both Windows and Linux. I need at least one of these working on spellchecker. I need Spanish and Portuguese spellcheckers. Any suggestions? I tried 'aspell' on Windows and 'ispell' on Linux, but not is working. On Windows I installed aspell on C:\Aspell, and the Lyx seems to recognize it, but when I press F7, no message is shown, and the text is full of mistakes. At Linux, I downloaded the last 'ispell', then I compiled it and when I press F7, it said that 'No words are found', but I know Linux, and I know everything was correctly done. Re: Increase features - no!
Such bundles exist. They are called 'SuSE 9.3', 'Fedora Core 4', 'Debian Sarge' or similarly and install nicely on top of any version of Windows. They usually even include nethack and lots of other things you might find useful. Andre' :) Hey Andre' -- I'm a Linux user. I work on Linux for about six years. I know this SO! I've installed Lyx on it, but the spellchecker is not working yet at spanish and portuguese! :) Take care! Douglas ___ Promoção Yahoo! Increase features!
It's a funny affair! I just wanted to increase some features at my Lyx (like new document classes, color support on LaTeX picture, spellchecker, etc.) and I thought about to do a full install of the MikTex program (the Lyk base for LaTeX on windows systems). Then, I downloaded about 400mb of MikTex stuff and start installing everything, which spent me one long day and one gb of HD! Afterwards I could realize that nothing changes! No increase feature at Lyx! My spellchecker is not working, then I tried to download some about ".ispell" to use on it, then I realize it must be compiled on linux or cygwin -- wich I won't install! Almost mad, I started to seek the "aspell" dict to use on my Lyx, then I downloaded it and installed it, and afterwards, I configured on Lyx to use aspell spellchecker. Now Lyx is freezing and that's it! Good grief! I'm tired, but would like to ask a simple question: Is there some way to use a non-english dict on Lyx (not on theory, but I want some stuff that really works!)? All the best! Hyphenation --- but before: Thank you!
Thanks a lot everyone! I've never saw so good and swift answers in a mail list before this! I solved the problem again. Hence cause of you! About hyphens: I need to write the most part of my docs in portuguese and some in spanish langs. But the LaTeX always hyphenize the document. It is great, and it always do it correctly in english, but sometimes it is wrong in portuguese, like "cat-egoria" (the right way is "ca-te-go-ri-a". Well, I know it is easy put manual hyphen on each critical words, but I need some easy way to do it --- once the Lyx purpose is the user 'do his best text, and let the Lyx work on the format', it's nonsense to correct the LaTeX hyphenation. :) Any sugestions? Maybe some resource to turn off the LaTeX hyphenation job? Take care! -- Abraços! Douglas ___ Novo Yahoo! Messenger com voz: ligações, Yahoo! Avatars, novos emoticons e muito mais. Page numbers and foot-note distance
Hey friends! How are you doing? I hope fine! Well, the subject already speaks for itself: How can I: 1. Take off the page numbers? (I need to make a Curriculum Vitae); and 2. Increase the foot-note distance from the body text? (it is too close to the body area) Thanks a lot in advance! -- Abraços! Douglas - Novo Yahoo! Messenger com voz: ligações, Yahoo!
