foiltex.sty and foiltex.cls
I found two different tarballs for foiltex. I tried each one, unpacking them in /usr/local/share/texmf/tex/latex and then doing texhash. I reconfigure in LyX and then restart LyX but it never sees foiltex. When looking at the foiltex folder, there are only three files: foiltex.dtx, foiltex.ins, and readme.flt. Where are foiltex.cls and foiltex.sty? I'm running version 1.35 of lyx. Foiltex used to be included. What am I doing wrong? Rick

Rotated Foil in Foiltex
I'm using LyX 1.3.1 with Foiltex. If I open an old document with a rotated foil, LyX creates a proper pdf or ps file. But when creating a new document with a rotated foilhead, the ps and pdf never show the rotation. Is there a work around? Rick B.

Re: [Lyx 1.2.1] Problems with foiltex and pdflatex
Thorsten, I had a similar problem with foiltex and viewing in gv. The problem was intermittent. I haven't used foiltex for about 6 months, but every so often, a landscape page or pages would have no left side margin. I never was able to resolve the problem. I was able to go into the postscript code and manually fix it (which is a pain). It appears that some how the margin instructions on some landscape pages get mangled when using foiltex when creating the postscript. This was with LyX 1.1.6 or earlier. I haven't used foiltex with 1.2.1 but it appears from what you are saying there is still a problem. Rick B. When I try to print it with lyx all the slides are printed in portrait mode not in landscape mode. My document settings are: foiltex, landscape and my printer driver is dvips. I read the manual but did not found something specific for my problem. Where or how can I adjust pdflatex so that I can print with the correct margins and how can I set up lyx to print in landcape mode? Thank you! Thorsten

I logged into a different home account and LyX spell checking works fine. There is NO .aspell.english.pw file in this account. (I don't think I ever tried running LyX from this accoutn.) Spellchecking Doesn't Work in 1.2.1
This is the first time I've tried to check the spelling since I installed 1.2.1. LyX freezes for a while but the spell checker panel never appears. Is this a known bug? How do I fix this? I'm using RH 8.0 on an Intel computer. Rick B.

I have three computers (work, home, and laptop) and the same thing happens on all three. Someone suggested turning on debugging using lyx -dbg any or lyx -dbg graphics. This shows that there is a problem in converting the eps into pnm (if memory serves). Yet all the necessary software is installed and functioning. LyX is set up to use convert from ImageMagick. I can convert the eps files manually but it just doesn't work in LyX. What is really funny is that if I load a LyX help document, it displays the eps figures. LyX 1.2.1 seems to have a lot of problems. I used to be able to just install the latest version and everything would basically work. With 1.2.1 now I also have trouble with the previewing of the document. On my home PC, if I logged in as a regular user, the preview worked OK (dvi, ps, and pdf). Yet if I would log in as root, it would not work. Another strange problem is viewing as html. I get an error message about the document name if it has more than one .. Something about dvips not working in this case (although it has always worked to do a dvi preview). If I rename the document so it has only one ., then it makes a nice html document and displays it in netscape (4.79) using latex2html. In some situations (I don't remember exactly), I would get an error saying that netscape can't find the server. If I configure LyX to use mozilla, I always get this error. Must have something to do with writine the mozilla command to open a file. I imagine when LyX installs itself (I used an rpm), it looks for helper programs and configures accordingly. But I have all of them and they worked in 1.1.6fix3 so I'm not sure why things are so flaky now. If it was just one machine, I could understand it but not three (all running RH 8.0 - maybe it has to do with RH 8.0). Rick B.
