This is an English list, so I reply in English. Please let me know if this is

Try this:
* Select the TOC and LOT insets (the grey buttons for the Table of Contents
and List of figures, respectively) with the cursor
* Open Edit > Paragraph Settings (Bearbeiten > Absatzeinstell
Alt-U and then the upper/lower case vowel seems to work very well, but
I'll try that too.

something long, I really would like to be able to easily/quickly
type the German Umlaute in lower and Upper case on the standard (US)
keybopard.

he is asking about the german letter ß.
On a mac you got to press “alt + s” to write it but I am not sure if he want’s
that or have it written in the output.
