Thanks, BH, Murat, and Stephan. Either suggestion would have worked. I I have
elected to resolve the problem within LyX as suggested by BH and Murat. But
thanks to you, too, Stephan.

I propose to make a link in the left side bar of the finder.
Go to the place you've LyX installed. Use the context menu on
the LyX application icon and choose "Open package" (I have
"Paketinhalt zeigen" here). Open the Folder Contents and
drag the Folder "Resources" to the left and place to link there.

Whenever you use the "File Open" dialog of LyX you have the
link to the system resources at hand now. You may go into
examples or into templates as you like.

I have always had problems to access to examples and also to the templates
since I have switched to OSX. I have observed that LyX2 look for the
templates in the folder ~/library/Application support/Lyx2.0
So, I have copied the examples and the templates folders from the
application bundle to this location. Now I can access both using File/"Open
from template" menu item (I am translating the names from French so they can
be slightly different for your system).

Sorry -- I should have said to use -G in the File > Open
dialog within LyX. You should be able to access it from within LyX.

If you'd prefer to copy them somewhere else, a standard place might be:

~/Library/Application Support/LyX-2.0/examples

Thanks BH -- and to Paul and Waluyo was well.

I can get to the examples folder through Finder, but not through the LyX file
browser. Now that I've found it, is there some standardd place i should move or
copy it to so it's available from within LyX itself?

On Mac, there's no easy way to get to the default examples folder. It
can be found at .../LyX.app/Contents/Resources/examples, which you can
get to through the or the Open file dialog by hitting -g and then
entering the path.

(We need a better solution for that and the default templates folder.)

On Linux, look in /usr/share/lyx/examples. On Windows, look for the examples
folder under the LyX installation directory (usually C:\Program Files\lyx, I
think). On a Mac, try the Finder or ask Steve Jobs. :-)

You can find it from File > Open, then click the Example button.
Then you will find that file.

Just getting started

2011-06-10 Thread Eric Weir

I installed LyX a couple months ago, and have experimented with it
superficially without reading any of the documentation. I've just upgraded to
2.0 and want to get started actually using it, initially just for simple
documents, which i imagine will be mostly composed using other applications --
Vim and Scrivener. Later I'll take more ambitious projects -- longer memos,
reports, proposals, articles -- that again may be wholly or partially composed
using other applications.

At the moment I'm working my way through the tutorial, and glad that I am. Some
fundamental differences, that I hadn't suspected, regarding the way white space
is managed, for example. The tutorial mentions a document, example_raw.lyx, to
which I am to make corrections as I progress through the tutorial, but it
doesn't say where it is and I can't find it.

Where is example_raw.lyx?

Thanks,
