Thanks again. I now have 2.3.2 loaded. Not sure when I will be doing another
brief but I will report on excess spacing matter soon as I do one.

If you use stretch-backports instead of testing, nothing except lyx should be

Repository. When I try to update to lyx 2.3.2 it affects about 40+

Now that I know your double-space/single-space/double-space trick, the
wait will be more than bearable.

John

When strange things happen in LaTeX output, I usually find it helpful to
do the View > Code Preview Pane (might have had a different name in
2.3.0) trick, setting the format to LaTeX rather than LyX, in the hope
of seeing something anomalous or interesting.

Good luck,

I don't think it's a function of parskip or any tweaking of space. As I

the culprit.

Do you use indendation or vertical space (parindent vs. parskip) to separate
paragraphs?

There is a long-standing bug with parskip:

Thanks for the tip but \raggedbottom in ERT (or preamble) did not seem
to help. I am attaching an example .lyx file. On my system there is
too much space between paragraphs 2 and 3.

John

John,

If you select View > Code Preview Pane and set the controls in the pane
to pdflatex format and "Body Only" for the view, you will see the
following structure:

\begin{doublespace}

\item That on or about ... Exhibit 5.

\item That on June ... Exhibit 6.

\end{doublespace}

\begin{doublespace}

\item That Joe ... each of . . .

\end{doublespace}

So you somehow dropped out of double spacing after item 2 and resumed it
before item 3. I'm pretty sure that's the culprit. I did Ctrl-A to
select everything, used the paragraph dialog to set default (single)
line spacing and then set double spacing, compiled with pdflatex and the
spacing was fixed.

So the question is, what might you have done to exit and then resume
double spacing? Did you by any chance write the first two items, set the
spacing on them, add the third item and then fix its spacing?

Probably this is due to LaTeX adding such space to make the pages all be
the same length. If you put \raggedbottom in ERT at the start of your
file, then this will not happen. But the pages will vary in text size.
