> 6. I use LINE IN for sampling and LINE OUT for playback on the PC. > Isn't the answer to the "needs more swing" problem just use the headphone out instead of the line out? Just like on the actual cassette player. This also makes the discrepency about hooking two M100's to each other not working into no mystery at all. It would be entirely expected, if the m100 outputs line level, but expects input from an earphone jack. It does mean that in modern times you would still have to "play with volume settings to get it to work", just like in the olden days, because the exact levels coming out of headphone jacks is never predictable or the same from one device to the next. Did anyone ever make a volume calibrator test tape? I'm imagining a tape with a refence signal on it, (or a program could generate the test signsl and you could record it yourself) and a util that runs on the m100 that listens on the cassette port continuously, while you play the special test-pattern tape and turn the volume up and down. The util would listen and do very simple analysis in real time and update the display to let you find the perfect volume level for your tape drive. Not merely a level that works, but the center of the range that would work for most commercial tapes, and the safest from corrupt reads. -- bkw >

Re: [M100] Audacity
Once I had a process down i was able to repeatably make mp3 files that played from an iPhone 6 using audacity and a that Thinkpad laptop. Using a dedicated TASCAM recording device was easier and reliable but those are expensive. My only problem is I didn't have much use for it. It's cool to be able to bootstrap TEENY but other than that it's generally easier for me to use REX + TSDOS + laddiealpha. -- John.
