i downgraded growl to a less current version but all i can see in
the apps under settings is the growl app itself.
no other app appears to show up and i can't find a single way of
adding apps such as skype.

I have growl 1.2.2 installed and my application table lists growl, get iplayer
automator, 1 password, and quickeys.
Applications have to be launched to connect to growl so you generally have to
launch the application once for growl to know about it.
Try the growl version
What is this prgram you are talking about and what does it do with applications?

Wow to do I have a lot to learn.
I hope I've missed nothing important in emails especially for voice over. I
just realized today that some subjects are not all there till I expand them.
The web is still a mystery for me too as well as how to take files from my xp
to mac.
