So I'm asking again for some help here.
As I said before: I attempted to encrypt a time machine partition.
Things went bad.
At this point, I'd be happy if I could figure out how to reformat the
partition and start over.
On a separate note, is there a way to do file vault encryption of a

How does one search for a phrase in ML Preview.app? If I type in disk devices
without quotes, I get all matches for disk and devices, not necessarily
adjacent. If I type the phrase with quotes, I get no matches. Surely there's a
way to do this…!

With Disk Utility in 10.7.5, it's pretty simple to shrink partitions.
Can the result of several free gaps be combined; can those shrunk partitions be
moved so that the free space is all in one place for allocating something else?
(Note that the only way I know of to grow a partition is to
I'd like help to burn a Lion install DVD.
I have downloaded the lion installer from Apple.
I have found the InstallESD.dmg file inside of it.
File size is: 4,706,314,014 bytes (4.71 GB on disk)

thought was a standard

Hi folks:
This is the place I turn to when my Mac is giving me a headache. For many
years, I have been using Apple Mail, and until 10.6.8, when I would click on a
single message in Classic View (List) with the newest mail at the bottom of
the screen, the delete key would cause the message
So I'd like to know how to use the visual display of memory allocations in Java
on Mac OS. I'm using Java 6.
Apparently, and I'm not sure if I understand this correctly, there are three
different tools for microsoft windows based systems: jconsole, visualvm,
jvisualvm.
Which are available for
Hi,
I am having a lot of problems with Mountain Lion (ML) on my fairly old Mac Pro.
I think my Mac Pro is the earliest version that is supported for ML. The
original installation of ML ran fine (as far as I know) for about 6 or 7
months, but then some big problems arose. I reinstalled ML on
I have not received any messages from Mac OS Talk in all of August, and out
of curiosity checked mac os admin; nothing from it in several months.
Are these mailing lists now dead? Or is something odd going on at my end?

I usually work from my iMac (sometimes from a MBP), so all the articles I want
to read are stored on Safari there in multiple tabs, but that's not where I
want to read them.
I want to read them on a portable device that would automatically find what I

My computers is setup to take a picture whenever someone logs in and save it
using a little command-line utility called imagesnap that I call with a login

The trouble is, the point when it takes the picture is the point at which the

How can I make a small (40KB) dmg? Disk Utility seems to insist on at
least 40MB.

On 10.6.8, using the Certificate Assistant from within Keychain Access, is it
possible to create keys longer than 2048 bits? I'm seeing what looks like a

Hi,
I recently ran Disk Utility, clicked the Verify Disk button, and it found a

Anyone heard that before? That was news to me.

Hi,
Is this list still active? I have not seen many posts for quite a while. I
posted 2 questions over the past couple weeks and did not get a single reply to
either, which is unusual. Oh well, let me try again with a third question.
I use Back To My Mac (B2MM) to connect my Mac Pro at home
This is a test.
I have not seen anything from this list in at least two weeks.
I have checked the web archive --

since july.
If anyone sees this, please include me directly in a response (at least
until Sep 17th :-).

I don't believe it matters how you order your mailing list. It's just that the
algorithm for selecting the next message to view has changed incompatibly. Now,
when you delete a piece of mail, if the message on one side of it is read and
the message on the other side of it is unread, no matter

Thank you very much for your comments. I agree that it's maddening, but it
clearly flip flops in its behavior, which is very odd for a computer. Currently
it is behaving the way it used to.
All the best,
