Nope, that's not normal. But there is a bug in MacPorts where it does not
detect when, for example, decompression of a source tarball fails (if for
example your bzip2 utility is faulty), and the error message it prints is more
cryptic, like no such file or directory. If you show us a main.log file from
one of these failures maybe we can figure out what's happening.

But I believe that compiler should be set by qt4 portgroup, possibly

Installled packages always come from compressed archives in modern

If you needed to then you would be seeing fairly obvious errors. Why are
archives worrying you so much, that their mere existence must mean your system

On 04/09/2012, at 3:00 AM, macports-users-requ...@lists.macosforge.org wrote:

 Greetings :

I'm looking for a command line ogg to mp3 converter for osx.

I imagine that ffmpeg would be the best bet; it can do just about anything.

There's an example of converting an ogg file to mp3 with selective
copy of some of the metadata in the ffmpeg man page.

The command line options are sometimes quite non-obvious. There
are GUIs built on top of ffmpeg, such as the one at
www.ffmpegX.com. I haven't looked at them in detail, to know
whether any of them would (like AIX's smit does when providing a
GUI or menu-driven way of performing administrative tasks) offer
the option of showing the command-line equivalent for future use.
And I don't know that any are in MacPorts.
  Hi Richard :
I have received other recommendation for ffmpeg, so it is good to
hear your second and supporting opinion.
  I will look into it.
FYI: I did find a perl utility call ogg2mp3. I believe you can
get it from http://gitorious.org/ogg2mp3/pages/Home, although I
was directed to a gentoo site for it.
It needs the ogg-vorbis port and it is extremely simple to work
with but doesn't seem like there is any direct control over where
the mp3 files are written. Although with a superior process
running it, that can be worked around.

Thanks again for the tip on ffmpgeg.

Of course all the comments about changing one lossy format to another. bad
results
You should try to convert a non-lossy to a lossy ie wav to mp3, wav to ogg etc

How long did you wait? OpenSceneGraph is a large port; depending on how fast
your computer is, it could take hours to build.

I don't understand what you mean. In what way are they compressed? How do you

You should either use MacPorts to manage your software, or install it manually
by downloading from various places like the above. You should not mix and match
these two strategies; they will interfere with one another.

Hi Peng - I see this too. I think one can create a startup file that
does graphics_toolkit gnuplot or graphics_toolkit fltk which should

Looks like you have not updated your MacPorts in a long time.

ncursesw was replaced by ncurses 18 months ago. We try to keep upgrade paths in
place for a year, but beyond that time, you may run into issues upgrading.
Please selfupdate and upgrade your outdated ports at least yearly.

The solution in this case is to force the uninstallation of the now-unnecessary
ncursesw port:

sudo port -f uninstall ncursesw

Thank you!

I see this is probably going to be an iterative process to get everything back

Uninstalling ncursesw allowed the upgrade process to go farther than before,
but now there seems to be a problem with Perl 5:

You probably want to uninstall the old perl5.8 port you have installed and then
install the current perl5 port (which will give you perl5.12 by default)

And, a question: doesn't Mac OS X already include Perl?

Deactivate the perl5.8 port:

Sure but in the case of povray a mere revision increase isn't what's required;
that was already done in r97300. Rather, this version of povray is simply
incompatible with libpng 1.5. So someone needs to investigate whether a newer
version of povray is available to which the port could be updated, or if there
is a libpng 1.5 compatibility patch that could be applied. So as always it's
good to have separate tickets for each separate issue that needs to be
separately addressed.

This is #29223. You need to clean the affected port before trying again.

sudo port clean ImageMagick

Cleaning and trying again is the first thing you should try anytime any port

mcrypt and PHP

2012-09-03 Thread G R Lewis
Current versions of:
Mac OS: 10.7.4
PHP: 5.3.10 (pretty sure it came with the OS)
phpMyAdmin: 3.5.0

The front page of phpMyAdmin has a warning in red:
The mcrypt extension is missing. Please check your PHP configuration.

I've seen some instructions that involve (I think) recompiling PHP with the
extension but I'm hoping that's not necessary.
