Think about smart mailboxes as instant SpotLight searches and you shouldn't have too many problems. For example, if you have the "unread" flag in the Smart mailbox and then you read the message you really don't want that message to instantly disappear from the mailbox do you? So I believe

The only time I've ever had a problem with lightening on my Mac was through the Ethernet connection. It blew the built-in Ethernet connection on my old G4 Mac. Luckily I was able to install a PCI Ethernet card and just stop using the built in connector. That was probably about 5 years ago and
